My mom ordered 4 Dell Vostro 220 Mini Tower Desktop computers for her company last week. This week, 3 units came on Tuesday and 1 unit came on Wednesday. I was there on Wednesday to help her setup the computers. I managed to setup everything for the 3 units that came on Tuesday. So happen when I wanted to setup the unit that came on Wednesday, there was a problem! The first time I switch on the PC, I got a BOSD after reading Dell’s EULA. After rebooting, it will load Windows XP and then hang at the “Pre-installing Factory Settings”. I tried like 10 times, all the same results. Ran the diagnostics CD that came with the PC as told by the Dell telephone support personnel, but I can’t seem to find any problem with the hardware like the HDD or the RAM. So I suspect it must be either the motherboard or the integrated graphics card as those are not tested in the diagnostics.

Dell’s engineer came down today and said there was a problem with the motherboard bios configuration and he changed the whole motherboard and now everything is fine.

Here are the customized specifications of the Dell Vostro 220 Mini Tower Desktop:

This is why I don’t trust Dell, they combine good specifics with bad specifics which cause problems, and the only way for a fix is to either replace the part or replace the entire motherboard. I have a Dell Computer, and honestly for its speed it hasn’t lasted more than 2 years while my HP computer which I purchased in 1999, windows 98 computer, is even faster than my dell computer (non specifications wise). You’d be surprised at what it can run with just 64mb of ram. Once i ran a game, GTA Vice City, and honestly It could run it, but it wasn’t really smooth, because of the graphics card which has about 16mb of memory. My hp computer is still running, with its fast speed. My dell computer which is suppose to be 200% better is slow, even when I remove a bunch of stuff, and improve its ram.

So right now, I’m using an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop. Its pretty powerful since I have used over 200 gb of storage for programs and stuff, and it still runs fast. I purchased my laptop about a year ago, since i got annoyed with the Dell computer.

The problem with integrated graphics is because it’s integrated into the northbridge dude, so the only way to fix the problem is to replace the whole mobo. This is the same for any other branded PC bro.

Never had a problem with Dell, especially when lester is now dealing with their business and not the consumer department. IMO the service they provide is godsend man.

Dell service is good. The manager called my mom personally to check that everything is ok after their engineer left
