Joined the dark side and got the Nespresso Pixie (Electric Red)! The recommended retail price (RRP) is SGD$398 but thanks to a friend who is working in Nestle, I managed to get it at staff price!

The machine is Made in Switzerland (NOT China) and I like how they have a handle together with the box for you to carry it easily! The box includes 16 capsules. You can shop for more capsules over at their online store, Club Nespresso, or using their Nespresso iPhone App. There are 3 prices for their capsules. Prices below are for each capsule:

  • Pure Origin – SGD$1.07
  • The Espresso range – SGD$0.91
  • The Lungo range – SGD$0.99

Capsules Pricing

You need to buy a minimum of 50 capsules in total each time you purchase for packaging reasons (you can mix and match). For orders above 150 capsules, delivery is free within 2 business days and for orders below that, the delivery charge is SGD$10.

The Coffee

I am a coffee person but I am not that well versed with coffee, for me the taste is pretty similar to what you get in Starbucks but for just 1/5 of the price.

Todai Singapore open its doors on 18th February 2011 at #B2-01 The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.

Location

It is located right at the end of The Shoppes (nearer to the Marina Bay Financial Center). It occupies quite a huge space at The Shoppes, it’s floor area is about 1,300m2. It has more than 400 seats including 4 private rooms. The restaurants houses more than 100 employees with about 50 of them being chefs.

Todai is a US-Korean international seafood and sushi buffet restaurant and it was first opened in Santa Monica in 1985. Their international cuisines includes, Chinese, Japanese, Korea, Singaporea, Western, Italian, Brazilian Churrasco and Vietnamese.

Todai Singapore

I think Todai is similar to Pariss Buffet Restaurant, lots of variety but in terms of quality of food, Todai is so much better. That is because currently most of the chefs are from Korea.

Todai Restaurant Layout

There are about 20 zones as seen in the picture above, out of which are 8 main sections, Salads & Cold Cuts, Sushi Sashimi, Noddles, Italian Pizza & Pasta, Meat & Seafood, Brazilian Churassco, Desserts.

Seafood

Churassco

2 of the more popular sections are the seafood and churassco. You can only take 2 oysters from the seafood section at a time, but you can take as many times as you want. The grilled pineapple and sirloin steak from the churassco is awesome!

They also have a fish cutting ceremony once every week (during one of the weekday) where they brought in the freshly flown fish and slice it up on the spot for sashimi.

If you are looking for a private company dinner, they also have 4 private rooms for you with no additional surcharge but of course subject to availability.

Last but not least, the reason why Todai hold a blogger event because they want us to help spread the word to emphasis that the food they bring in are not from Japan and does not contain any radioactive materials.

I have no idea why people in Singapore are so concern about food from Japan containing radioactive materials. My family is in the food business and I can say that Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) is very anal (in a good way) when it comes to food safety. So have some faith with the food in Singapore!

My personal opinion of Todai is food is good, lots of variety, ingredients are fresh and food are freshly prepared (they do not use MSG). Large sitting area which is good for both personal and corporate events and most importantly prices are reasonable.

Sushi Tei will be celebrating it’s 15th birthday this coming September. As part of the celebration, Sushi Tei will be giving back to the community. It has created a “Sushi Tei Anniversary Menu” with five menu items where 100% of nett sales proceeds from the anniversary menu will be donated to charity. The adopted charities for Sushi Tei are Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF) and Home Nursing Foundation (HNF). The proceeds will be split evenly and it hope to raise SGD$150,000 for the adopted charities.

In addition to commemorating the organization’s anniversary, Sushi Tei will open a new restaurant at City Square Mall this September. Further expansion plans for this year include moving Sushi Tei’s very first
restaurant from its original location at Holland Village to a larger premise in the same vicinity. The new Holland Village restaurant will combine contemporary elegance and intimate ambiance with an expanded
alfresco dining area.

The menu features two very popular Sushi Tei dishes: Sashimi Salad and Soft Shell Crab, and three new dishes created especially for the fundraiser initiative: Beauty Roll, Tutti-Frutti Roll and Crunchy Tuna.

Sashimi Salad – SGD$9

Soft Shell Crab – SGD$10

Beauty Roll – SGD$14

Collagen, avocado, crab meat sushi roll. The girls love this because of the collagen!

Tutti-Frutti Roll – SGD$12

A sushi roll of mango, honey dew and cucumber with strawberry and avocado on the top.

Crunchy Tuna – SGD$9

Deep fried minced tuna roll with chopped garlic topped with flying fish roe and spring onion accompanied with chili mayonnaise sauce. My personal favourite!

While you are there, check out the current promotion which is the, Fusion Fiesta Promotion. I highly recommend the Salt Ice Cream as dessert. Yes Salted Ice Cream! They specially imported it from Japan!
