I am also using Google Analytics to track specific sites like http://forums.lesterchan.net, http://expenses.lesterchan.net, http://files.lesterchan.net and of course http://facebook.lesterchan.net (there is no index page so I am not linking it) where it houses all my Facebook applications.

Since I have moved over to my own server which is located in my own country (Singapore), I would like to know the load time for this site from my users, just give a rough estimate will do. The poll is located on the right hand side menu.

Thanks =)

If you can see this post, it means that the moving of host is completed and now this site resides on my own server, FRRO.

This server is housed by IDC Services Pte Ltd and backed by Qala.

This server is a Dell PowerEdge 860.

  • Single Dual-Core Intel Xeon 3050, 2.13GHz, 1066MHz front side bus, 2MB cache
  • 2x 1GB ECC DDR2 667 SDRAM
  • CentOS Release 5

Hopefully, this will be the last move ever.

DreamHost is pissing me off these few weeks as a lot of my users complained to me that the plugins they downloaded from this site is corrupted. This is due to the fact that the connection is being cut off before the file is being downloaded completely. On top of that, the loading time for my site is horribly long.

I had enough of DreamHost nonsense and I am moving to my own server, FRRO after my exams which my last paper is on 4th December 2007.

Before that, this site will go down for at least 8 hours on the 30th November 2007 because DreamHost is moving the server that this site is hosted to another datacenter.

Hopefully by mid December, the move will be completed.

I have changed all my plugins download links listed on My Programming Portfolio Page to point to the Official WordPress Plugins Repository instead of to my own site as many users have problem downloading it from my site because DreamHost is quite sucky recently. I have been able to download it at times and most of the times the download just got cut off. So I figured out it would be better to point it directly to plugins repository instead.

Sorry if it took so long, I have been very busy with my school.

I am going to move over to my own server, FRRO, once my contract with DreamHost ends in January 2009.

I have did some Search engine optimization (SEO) for this site.

  • Removed /archives/ from the blog post url
  • Dynamic Page Title (finally)
  • Page Title will appear first

After this phrase is done, I am going to rename /blogs/ to /blog/ because technically, there is only 1 blog and not many blogs.

I have finally took some time off to redirect http://www.lesterchan.net to http://lesterchan.net and update my links to reflect this change.

As for my links in my WordPress plugins, I will update it when I release updates for all of them after WordPress 2.3 is released (sometime in September 2007).

For all those that linked me, it would be good if you can change my url from http://www.lesterchan.net to http://lesterchan.net. If you find it too troublesome to do so, you can just leave it as .htaccess will take care of it.

But most importantly, a big thank you for linking me.

Why is .www deprecated?

By default, all popular Web browsers assume the HTTP protocol. In doing so, the software prepends the ‘http://’ onto the requested URL and automatically connect to the HTTP server on port 80. Why then do many servers require their websites to communicate through the www subdomain? Mail servers do not require you to send emails to recipient@mail.domain.com. Likewise, web servers should allow access to their pages though the main domain unless a particular subdomain is required.

Succinctly, use of the www subdomain is redundant and time consuming to communicate. The internet, media, and society are all better off without it.

By: www. is deprecated.
