Ordered a 21.5″ iMac (3.06GHz) for my dad to replace his old computer (which is also my previous desktop computer). Actually suppose to order 2 sets. One for my Dad to put it at home and the other for my mom to replace her old Fujitsu laptop in the office. However, my mom got some doubts about the Mac OS X and software compatibility issues and hence ended up getting 1 set for my dad first. In the mean time she can play around with it at home before making a final decision.

Since I am still technically a student, I made use of the Education Store and hence it is cheaper by SGD$100. The iMac cost SGD$1,688. I also topped up another SGD$218 for Apple Care so that the warranty will get extended by another 2 years.

My mom preferred the idea of non-wireless keyboard and mouse so that there is no need to change batteries every now and then. I opted for the Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad. As for the Magic Mouse, I wanted it so I bought another Apple Mouse. The difference between each wireless and non-wireless mouse/keyboard is SGD$20, and unfortunately Apple do not refund you the difference if you opt for the non-wireless mouse/keyboard.

The Apple Mouse and the iMac was delivered on two separate dates maybe because I “customized” my iMac by changing the bundled keyboard.

Today is the last day of the year 2009. 10 years ago today, everyone was frantic about the Y2K bug. I will be watching Alvin & The Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel at 10:50pm at GV VivoCity, so I will be spending the countdown inside the cinema watching the movie, first time experiencing this. Last year I was in Taiwan for the countdown, kinda miss that, that countdown was the best countdown I have ever been to so far. Singapore’s countdown is a total joke, who the heck want to watch Mediacorp’s artists perform? They are seriously overworked and underpaid.

2010

  • 2010 will be the year I actually start finding a job and continue working for the rest of my life.
  • 2010 will marked my 26th birthday, I am halfway through to being 30.
  • 2010 will marked my 6th year together with Li Xiang.
  • 2010 will marked the 8th year of lesterchan.net.
  • 2010 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place between 11th June 2010 to 11th July 2010 in South Africa.

Wishing all my readers and visitors a Happy New Year 2010!

After 2 years in Kindergarten, 6 years in Primary school, 4 years in Secondary school, 3 years in Polytechnic and 3 1/2 years in University, I have finally completed my course of study after 18 1/2 years! Went to Taiwan with Weiquan (knew him since Polytechnic), Kelvin and Hong Jun for our graduate trip for 7 days 6 nights.

Day 01 (Monday, 7th December 2009)

  • China Airlines flight CI0752 departed at 10:30am. There was a delay of about 45 minutes because one of the runway in Changi Airport was closed to allow another airplane to do emergency landing.
  • Reached Tao Yuan International Airport Terminal One at about 3.30pm and took the Free Go bus to our Nei Jiang Hotel (內江商旅).
  • Free Go bus cost NT$240 for a round trip and hotel cost NT$2380 per night.
  • Reached our hotel at about 5.30pm and spend about 1 hour to get the Wireless Router up and running but unfortunately it could not work because the voltage in Taiwan is only 110 volts and we need 230 volts. End up using Windows 7 Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) which is a pain in the ass to set up.
  • Dinner was at Modern Toilet (便所主题餐厅) located in Ximending (西門町).
  • After dinner, we walked almost the whole of Ximending (西門町)!

  • After dinner went to Shida Night Market (师大夜市).

Day 04 (Thursday, 10th December 2009)

  • Took the Taiwan High Speed Rail (台灣高鐵) to Taichung (台中).
  • Went to our Minsu (民宿) called Tomato Rooms which is located near Feng Jia (逢甲).
  • After depositing our bags there, we went to Yi Zhong Street (一中街) to do some shopping as Feng Chia Night Market (逢甲夜市) only open after 6pm.

The lightup will start tonight at 7:30pm outside Wisma Atria’s INDOCHINE restaurant, on level 1. The world longest chain of light-sticks consisting of about 10,000 red light-sticks will stretch from SingTel’s Comcentre headquarters at Exeter Road through Skate-Park, Orchard Cineleisure, ION, Wisma Atria, Ngee Ann City, Heeren, Centrepoint, Plaza Singapura, Cathay Orchard, Singapore Management University, Raffles City, Esplanade, Collyer Quay, Keppel Road and Vivocity to Siloso Beach (Sentosa). That is about 8.09km long!

World’s Longest Chain Of Light-Sticks Beckons Singapore’s Youth To Come To Where The Bright Lights Dance – Singtel’s ZoukOut 2009

Singapore’s youth will feel the light on the night of the 20th of November, as most parts of the island frequented by young people will be draped in possibly the world’s longest chain of light-sticks. This unique and record-breaking installation is one of the highlights of SingTel’s on-going campaign for ZoukOut, which it is presenting for the fourth consecutive year.

The chain of close to 10,000 specially designed red light-sticks is about 8.09km long, and will stretch from SingTel’s Comcentre headquarters at Exeter Road through Skate-Park, Orchard Cineleisure, ION, Wisma Atria, Ngee Ann City, Heeren, Centrepoint, Plaza Singapura, Cathay Orchard, Singapore Management University, Raffles City, Esplanade, Collyer Quay, Keppel Road and Vivocity to Siloso Beach (Sentosa). Each light-stick bears an invite to “Come where the bright lights dance” at SingTel’s ZoukOut 2009.

The region’s biggest music and dance festival presented by SingTel, will take place on the 12th of December, 2009. Sentosa’s Siloso Beach will be rocked by the vibes of DJs such as Armin Van Buuren, Martin Solveig, Bob Sinclair, Ame and Kings of Tomorrow.

“SingTel is pleased to present ZoukOut 2009 for the fourth year running in partnership with Zouk. ZoukOut 2009 is an ideal platform for our customers to be entertained by world-class acts including an impressive line-up of international DJs. This partnership further demonstrates our commitment to reaching out to youths through music and entertaining lifestyle-related activities, and our customers can look forward to more similar events from us,” Ms Sarah Chua, Vice President of Consumer Marketing, SingTel, said.

“ZoukOut is a dusk to dawn event, and bright light-sticks are a common sighting amongst the partygoers. SingTel has hence decided on the deployment of brilliant light-sticks as the invitation to our young customers to the region’s biggest and wildest music & dance festival. At ZoukOut 2009, our customers can also look forward to more delightful surprises at the SingTel VIP zone,” Mr. Derrick Heng, Director of Segment Marketing & Communications, SingTel, said.

ZoukOut 2008 saw SingTel’s customers chilling out on board a specially erected VIP yacht. Customers can gain free entry to ZoukOut 2009 by signing up to any SingTel youth plan. SingTel customers also enjoy free-flow from 8-11pm at the VIP zone, which structure still remains a mystery.

This year Singapore Christmas light-up is themed “A Christmas All Decked Out”. Three Christmas icons namely Santa, reindeers and snowmen are given designers makeovers and all decked out in haute couture. The first Christmas light-up started in 1984 (the year I was born). So this is the 26th year running.

The decoration in Orchard road is divided into three zones, the blue zone covering from Tanglin Mall all the way to Shaw Center, the orange zone covers from Ion Orchard all the way to Heeren and lastly the red zone covers from Orchard Building till the end of Orchard Road.

Blue Zone

Orange Zone

Red Zone

Some trivia, the Christmas light-up launch mechanism was constructed from recycled wood panels with crystal ornaments from previous years Christmas decorations.

Personally I think the this year decoration is better than last year, my personally favorite is the “snowing effect” simulating by white LED lights.

*Phew* Finally my nervous presentation at BlogOut! 2009 was over. BlogOut! 2009 was a huge success.

There is some re-scheduling, my presentation was moved up to about 11.45am instead of 1.30pm. Once I am up there presenting, I don’t feel so nervous anymore. Elvin from Intel told me to look at the audience more often and smile which I agree. I think I am too engross looking at my screen and notes instead of the audience. Li Xiang told me that my hand moved too much and should hold onto the podium to prevent it from moving about that often. I hope I can do better next time. If I have the time, I hope to speak again at the Singapore PHP User Group when WordPress 2.8 comes out.

Me Presenting

I have uploaded my slides for WordPress as a Blogging Tool to SlideShare.

Thanks to Claudia for the invite to speak at BlogOut! 2009.

Cheers to all who mingled with me during the breaks, thanks for using WordPress as well as supporting my plugins =D

Till we meet again in BlogOut! 2010!
