Got the Sapido MB-1132 for NT$1,790 (~SGD$76.83). Thanks to my relative, Andy, who got it from Guang Hua Digital Plaza in Taiwan when he was there to attend Computex 2011.

The Sapido MB-1132 was recommended by Justin Lee and I was impressed by what it can do. In a nutshell, it can:

Charge your USB devices

Act as a router by plugging in a LAN cable with Internet connectivity to create a Wi-Fi hotspot

Connect your iPhone/Android phone to it or even a 3G USB Dongle and it can create a Wi-Fi hotspot

Re-broadcast Wi-Fi (eg: if you paid for Wi-Fi, login to the paid service using MB-1132 and re-broadcast your own Wi-Fi it so others can use it for free)

Compact & lightweight, good for travelling

There is also a similar model called Sapido MB-1112 (N+ Mobile 3.75G Modem Router). It is identical to the Sapido MB-1132 except that the Sapido MB-1112 does not allow Internet sharing via iPhone/Android/3G Dongle. You have to put in a 3G SIM card in order to create a Wi-Fi hotspot.

I have not seen these devices at any computer stores yet (have not check Sim Lim Square), but checking their website, they do have an office in Singapore:

Got my iPad 2 32GB iPad 2 WiFi + 3G thanks to my friend/neighbour who went to queue up at 6am at Infinite at VivoCity and on the way got it for me! If you are reading this, Thanks Pei Jun!

Similar to iPad 1 launch, 1 person is entitled to buy 2 iPad 2 only. The stocks are extremely limited especially white! My friend was 5th in the queue and the white 32GB iPad 2 WiFi + 3G was already sold out. So I am guessing the previous 4 person got like 2x white each.

Damage:

32GB iPad 2 WiFi + 3G – SGD$978

Orange Polyurethane iPad Smart Cover – SGD$54

Digital AV Adapter – SGD$54

Total: SGD$1,086

And now the whole of Singapore’s iPad 2s is sold out. Online shipping time is still maintained at 1-2 weeks.

Hell, it is about time!

By when? By End July 2011

CONSUMERS will be able to enjoy significantly higher Internet surfing speeds on their smartphones and other mobile devices within MRT tunnels by July this year.

Singapore’s three telcos, said the Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts Lui Tuck Yew in Parliament on Thursday, must complete the installation of the necessary equipment to support the higher speed 3G or third-generation networks in all MRT tunnels by then. Previously, telecommunications sector regulator Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) had only said that the telcos had been ‘working towards’ the date.

He also disclosed, for the first time, that the IDA had earlier fined some operators for falling behind schedule in some tunnels, although he did not say which telco was fined or the penalty amount.

Modern 3G-enabled mobile devices like the Apple iPhone 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Tab can access the Internet at speeds of up to 7Mbps.

Unfortunately, some of Singapore’s MRT tunnels, including the North-South and East-West lines, are still running on the 2G mobile network, an older mobile system was primarily built to support voice and SMS traffic. This limits even those 3G-equipped devices to slower 2G Internet access speeds of about 100kbps.

The telcos had previously said that they were working hard to roll out the necessary 3G equipment, but are hobbled by time constraints since their crews can only work after the trains stop running.

Nokia has jumped onto the netbook bandwagon. I have no idea why it calls it a mini-laptop. For me, I classify all laptops that is powered by Atom processor a netbook. Initial specification looks delicious featuring 10″ glass screen, 3G connectivity, A-GPS and it only weights 1.25kg. To add, it is powered by Microsoft Windows.

Lets hope Singapore gets this!

Powered by the efficient Intel Atom processor, the Nokia Booklet 3G delivers impressive performance with up to 12 hours of battery life, enabling people to leave their power cable behind and still be connected and productive. Delivering the rich experience of a full-function PC inside an ultra-portable aluminum chassis, the new mini-laptop weighs 1.25 kilograms, measures slightly more than two centimeters thin, and has the features one would expect from the world’s leading mobile device manufacturer. A broad range of connectivity options – including 3G/ HSPA and Wi-Fi – gives consumers high speed access to the Internet, including Nokia’s broad suite of Ovi services, and allows them to make the most of every moment and every opportunity.

“A growing number of people want the computing power of a PC with the full benefits of mobility,” said Kai Oistamo, Nokia’s Executive Vice President for Devices. “We are in the business of connecting people and the Nokia Booklet 3G is a natural evolution for us. Nokia has a long and rich heritage in mobility and with the outstanding battery life, premium design and all day, always on connectivity, we will create something quite compelling. In doing so we will make the personal computer more social, more helpful and more personal.”

The mini-laptop also comes with an HDMI port for HD video out, a front facing camera for video calling, integrated Bluetooth and an easily accessible SD card reader. Other premium features include the 10-inch glass HD ready display and an integrated A-GPS which, working with the Ovi Maps gadget, can pinpoint your position in seconds and open up access for a truly personal maps experience. The Nokia Booklet 3G also brings a number of other rich Ovi experiences to life, whether its access and playback of millions of tracks through the Nokia Music Store, or using Ovi Suite to sync seamlessly from your Nokia smartphone, to your mini-laptop, to the cloud.

The Nokia Booklet 3G will widen the Nokia portfolio, satisfying a need in the operator channel, and bringing another important ingredient in the move towards becoming a mobile solutions company.

Further information, including detailed specifications, market availability and pricing, will be announced at Nokia World on 2nd September 2009.

It looks EXACTLY the same as the old iPhone. But it is MUCH CHEAPER. USD$199 for 8GB and USD299 for 16GB, which translate to SGD$271.81 for the 8GB and SGD$408.19 for the 16GB one. BUT the prices stated comes with a 2 years contract.

The only difference between the iPhone 3G and the iPhone is the additional of 3G support (duh), GPS (Assisted GPS), the back is now in black or white, flushed headphone jack and better audio quality.

I am so disappointed with this year WWDC. I was hoping they announced a better iPhone successor.

Now lets wait and see how much Singtel is going to charge for a 2 year plan for the iPhone 3G.

100% the iPhone 3G will be coming to Singapore. Check out Apple Singapore Store: iPhone 3G. But when is still a question mark.

The irony is that it is CHEAPER than a iPod Touch and with additional Phone, GPS and Bluetooth capability! Looks like Apple just killed the iPod Touch.

*UPDATE* The iPhone 3G link is up in Apple Singapore, http://www.apple.com/sg/iphone/, and Singtel is the only telecom so far to bring it, http://www.apple.com/sg/iphone/buy/.
