The Innergie Magic Cable Trio – Charge & Sync 3-in-1 USB Cable and Innergie Magic Cable Duo – Charge & Sync 2-in-1 USB Cable are the most expensive USB cables from Innergie. Each retailing for SGD$29 at Challenger but there is a 10% discount for members, so it adds up to SGD$26.10 each.

I got the Innergie Magic Cable Trio instead since it has 3 tips (Mini USB, Micro USB & Apple 30-pin connector) whereas the Innergie Magic Cable Duo has only 2 tips (Micro USB & Apple 30-pin connector).

You must be wondering since they are priced the same, one has 3 tips and the other has 2 tips, why don’t we just get the 3 tips one instead. This is where the length of the cable comes in. The length of the Innergie Magic Cable Trio is freaking short (20cm) where as Innergie Magic Cable Duo is 4 times longer (79cm)!

The build of the Innergie Magic Cable Duo/Trio is even better than the build of the Innergie Magic Cable – Multi-Tip USB Cable and I would say the build is similar to the official Apple Dock Connector to USB Cable.

The Apple 30-pin connector fits perfectly to my iPhone 4S, something which Deal Extreme‘s version of any Apple 30-pin connector cable can never do!

I would say this cable is very well worth SGD$26.10 considering the official Apple Dock Connector to USB Cable already cost SGD$28.

Valentine’s Day is around the corner or to be exact next Tuesday. If you are looking to give your girlfriend/fiance/wife flowers, I would totally recommend Far East Flora (FEF.com).

I have ordered many flowers from FEF.com and each time I am never disappointed with the quality of the flowers. I tried some other companies for flowers during Valentine’s Day and the quality is horrible, there is once they even staple the stalk of the rose to the wrapper!

Far East Flora has a mobile app called SG Florist on the App Store (universal app) that allows you to sent flowers to your love ones using your iPhone or iPad. Far East Flora has partnered with PayPal for payment on both their website and their iPhone/iPad app and hence making payment is a breeze!

Let’s walk through the whole process.

Loading Screen + Country Selection

FEF.com has branches in Hong Kong as well and hence the country selection.

Surprise + Login

Once the app is loaded, you will get to the surprise screen which display some facts and tips about flowers and occasions (and if you are lucky, you get a discount code). You can shake your iPhone or iPad and new facts and tips will appear.

There is also a login button at the top left hand of the screen for you to login to your FEF.com account. This will load your recipients that you have saved in your FEF.com’s address book.

Shop

The main screen of this app should be the Shop screen which it allows you to browse all kind of flowers and gifts.

Hand Bouquets

Most of the time, I like to give hand bouquets, so I just tapped on the “Hand Bouquets” sub-category and it will show me a list of hand bouquets flowers with their names and pricing. You can also sort by date added, highest priced and lowest priced. If you do not like the detailed viewed, you can also switched to the grid view (which I do not really like).

Flower Details

Tapping on any flowers’ name, will bring you to more details about the flowers like the description of the flowers, earliest delivery timing as well as the option of adding it to your shopping cart.

Shopping Bag

They do not literally use the term Shopping Cart, but instead they just use Shopping Bag. Once you tapped “Add to Bag” a prompt will appear telling you that you have successfully added the flower to your shopping bag and whether you want to switch to the Shopping Bag screen so you can checkout immediately.

Checkout

Since I always used my PayPal account for FEF.com because it is much easier (just login to PayPal and click Pay) to checkout compared to native Credit Card payment. I tapped on “Pay with PayPal” and it will bring me to PayPal payment page where you have to login to PayPal to process your payment. If you like to see the breakdown of the cost, you can click on the Down Arrow at the top right hand of the screen.

Completed

Once you have logged-in to PayPal and click Pay, it will redirect you back to FEF.com where you can enter the details of your recipient. Do note that at this time, payment is not yet made. Only after you entered your recipient details and click Pay, then the payment will be processed.

As you can see after I keyed in my recipient details and click Pay, my transaction is completed and I received a confirmation email from FEF.com immediately.

Show Press Release (361 More Words)

A Valentine’s Day Must Have

UOB launched their mobile iPhone app (AppStore: UOB Mobile Banking) yesterday.

Its differentiating factors from local banks’s iPhone app such as OCBC or DBS/POSB is the access to financial information (deposit/exchange rates, unit trust prices, gold/silver prices) and calculators for personal loans/home equity/financial services.

There is also an augmented reality view that allows you to see latest card promotions/privileges and nearest UOB branches/ATMs. I don’t particulary find that feature useful though.

My favourite feature of this app is the mobile cash feature. What it simply does it allows you to use your mobile phone to withdraw cash from ATM without the need of an ATM card. When I first heard about it, I was like WTF.

A neater feature built on top of it, is that it even allows you to send money to your friend and even if he is not a UOB customer, he still can withdraw the money from any UOB ATMs.

Mobile Cash

Step 1

So how does it work? Upon launching the UOB Mobile Banking app, go to Mobile Cash and select the recipient you want to send the cash to. By default, your name should already be in the list (for you to send money to yourself). Since you are not transferring the money to any bank account, no account number is needed, just the recipient name and his mobile number.

Add Recipient In iBanking

The only down side is that you can’t add the recipient using the app itself. So you have to login to the normal Internet Banking via your computer browser to add them or call the UOB Call Centre to get them to add that for you if you are outside.

Select Recipient / Withdrawal Password

On top of selecting the recipient name and specifying the amount to send, you would also need to specify a 6 digit pin that you would need to tell your recipient.

Step 2

Success / SMS

Once that is done, your recipient will receive a text message and it will contain the transaction code. Using this transaction code and the 6 digit pin that you provided, he can then proceed on to any UOB ATM.

One final verification is the OTP that will be send to your recipient mobile number after he keyed in the 6 digit pin and the transaction code at the ATM. So once he keyed in the OTP, the money you sent to him will be dispensed by the ATM.

Of course there are some security checks in place for such a useful feature and here they are:

The sender must register a list of recipients, their relationship with the sender, and the recipients’ personal information (NRIC and mobile numbers, name) before any transfer can take place

An instant SMS-notification and next-day follow up letter will be sent to the sender upon registration, confirming recipient details

An SMS of the mobile cash transaction with the specific reference number is sent to the recipient. This SMS instruction is valid for 24-hours and the sender can cancel a transaction at any time prior to expiry or cash withdrawal by the recipient

A separate withdrawal password which the sender should communicate to the recipient. This is to guard against the loss of the recipient’s mobile device

The recipient is prompted for the One-Time Password (OTP) upon withdrawal at the UOB ATM

The transaction is automatically voided should the ATM detect a pre-determined number of invalid password attempts

A maximum cumulative transfer amount of S$500 per day per sender

A recipient can receive only one transaction a day

I find it pretty neat! I hope all the banks will adopt this!

An Android app is on the way followed by Blackberry and mobile web version next year. A native iPad App is also in the works.

Download AppStore: UOB Mobile Banking

UOB launches First Mobile Banking app with Cardless Cash Withdrawals
New mobile app sets the standard for mobile banking

SINGAPORE, 8 December 2011 – United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB) today launched Singapore’s first mobile banking application that enables cardless cash withdrawals. This Mobile Cash service is part of UOB’s Mobile application, which can be downloaded for free from the iTunes Store from 12 December 2011.

UOB Mobile allows customers to transfer money to a list of registered recipients, including non-UOB customers. This is done via an instant text message and a one-time password. The recipient can then use this password and a withdrawal password to withdraw cash instantly at more than 600 UOB ATMs in Singapore. UOB is the first bank in Singapore to link its mobile application to instant physical cash access. Its Mobile Cash feature is the fastest way to send cash to family and friends when they need it urgently.

Speaking at the launch of UOB Mobile, Ms Wendy Teo, UOB’s Head of Group Channels, said: “Our mobile application is not just about having internet banking transactions on the mobile screen. UOB’s Mobile Cash gives our customers something new; something they need and something that will help make a difference in their lives. We are essentially putting a ‘branch in the hand’ of our customers.

We studied how people use their mobile phone and linked that to our knowledge of their everyday banking needs. From there, we developed Singapore’s first Mobile Cash application for our customers to transfer money securely and easily. We then broadened the scope to look at what other features would matter to them.”

In addition to its innovative Mobile Cash feature, UOB’s mobile application also offers:

Augmented reality – a ‘point and view’ feature of the latest card promotions and privileges, and nearest UOB branches and ATMs. When you tap on the promotion or UOB location, you are given the address and directions to get there. More than 1,000 merchant offers can be found through the application. Access to financial transactions on the go including fund transfers, account balances and bill payment options for more than 100 service providers.

Real-time access to financial information including deposit rates, exchange rates, unit trust prices and gold and silver prices

Calculators to help work out details about personal loans, home equity financing and financial goals.

Today, two out of every three UOB customers are registered internet banking users. We expect that many of these customers will use UOB Mobile for their everyday banking needs. The UOB Mobile application is available for iPhones and iPads, with plans to launch Android, Blackberry and Mobile Web versions in 2012.

UOB Mobile Cash Security
UOB has several key protection measures to help ensure customer security, including:

Bought the Mophie Juice Pack Boost from Apple (Singapore) Online Store for SGD$69.90. I can’t seem to find it in any Authorized Apple Reseller stores in Singapore. Instead they are still selling the older model, the one with 1,500mAh battery (Amazon Link) instead of this 2,000mAh one.

The Mophie Juice Pack Boost is bigger and much lighter than it looks. I was expecting it to be more compact in size and heavier, but surprising it is lighter than any of my Eneloop Chargers that I bring along in my bag whenever I am out (which is a good thing).

Another advantage of the Mophie Juice Pack Boost is the built-in Apple 30-pin dock connector‎ and hence you do not need to carry an extra Apple Dock Connector to USB Cable along with your backup battery which normally allows you to charge via USB port.

As mentioned earlier, the battery in the Mophie Juice Pack Boost has a capacity of 2,000mAh and this allows you to fully charge any iPod/iPhone models even if the battery is totally empty in your device.

It does charge your iPad but at an extremely slow rate since it only output a maximum of 1A. The iPad requires at least 2.1A for a proper charge.

The Mophie Juice Pack Boost also acts like a dock which holds your iPhone upright while it charges (see the last picture embedded in the post).

Fabrix launches Fifth October iPhone case as a tribute to Steve Jobs who passed away on the 5th October 2011. The case cost USD$10 (SGD$12.70). Shipping within Singapore via Registered Mail cost an additional USD$3 (SGD$3.80). I ordered on the 18th October 2011 and I received it on 24th October 2011. But now due to overwhelming orders, the waiting time is at least 3 to 4 days before your order is processed.

Description Of The Fabrix Fifth October iPhone Case

The passing of Steve Jobs has been a great loss to the entire Mac Community or rather, to the world. He was a true visionary, a great leader and an inspiring soul destined to changed the world. He has connected the world with his passion and his ideas. He challenged conventions and shaped the way we enjoyed technology today.

Here at Fabrix, we would like to pay a tribute to him, cause without him, we would not be doing what we love today. We have hence created a special tribute sleeve to immortalize him. We named this special edition sleeve ‘Fifth October’ because that is the day the world lost Steve Jobs to cancer.

Throughout Steve Jobs’s career, his trademark look spotting the black turtleneck top paired with blue jeans has garnered a cult following and we figured this is exactly how we would like to remember him as. As a form of respect to him, this sleeve will not bear any branding or labels. It will be shipped in a special drawer box in Black and Gold. Each sleeve will come with a handprinted random quote card, bearing a message from Steve Jobs that we feel has inspired us.

This sleeve will retail at just US$10 because we believe that every and anyone who would like to own it should be able to do so without a pinch (we just need to recover the costs on our side).

Ordered the Bluelounge MiniDock (UK variant) from bluelounge.com for USD$19.95 (~SGD$24.20). It was my first purchase over the website as the MiniDock is not yet sold in Singapore.

The shipping cost is about USD$4.15 (~SGD$5) via USPS (First Class Mail International Parcels). This shipping method is the cheapest but it is delivered via normal mail when it reaches Singapore as it does not come with a tracking number. Also my box is a little bit damage, but at just SGD$5 for shipping, I can’t really complain much. My item was shipped on 20th August 2011 and I received it on 8th September 2011 (about 20 days).

As the name suggest, this product is a dock that allows you to plug directly to Apple USB Power Adapter and dock your iPhone, iPod Nano/Touch directly to it without the need for any Apple Dock Connector to USB Cable. It is really good for travelling as often the power socket in a hotel room is always located at awkward position and you do not want to place your device on the floor with a wire connected to it as it is dirty and you might trip over it.

I wanted to get the Simplism DockCarabiner Neo for iPhone during the PC Show 2011 back in June 2011 but the black color was sold out on the second day. I went back on the third day but there was no re-stock. It was only selling for SGD$13.20 at Epicentre.

Ever since then I have been checking out various branches of Epicentre, but all of them do not have the black color. I also saw it at DG Lifestyle Store at VivoCity but they do not have black as well. But I left my name with them and ask them to call me when they have re-stock for black color.

They didn’t call me as expected but I happened to drop by VivoCity 2 days ago and saw the black color! Of course, I got it immediately!

It was retailing for SGD$18 but CitiBank credit card have a 10% discount, so after discount is SGD$16.20.

Don’t be fooled by the dock carabiner, once it is plugged into the iPhone’s dock connector, it is pretty strong, you can lift your iPhone with the dock carabiner and it will not drop.

iPhone 4

Apple officially announce iPhone 4 yesterday at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2010. I have been following it live on GDGT which I think is the fastest when compared to Engadget. This time round Gizmodo is just aggregating news as I think they are not physically there maybe because of the leak?

MicroSIM is now being used instead of the normal SIM card which is the same case as the iPad. Camera has been bumped up to 5MP with LED flash, front-facing camera added and Apple calls that FaceTime which is a nicer word for video conferencing except that it is for WiFi only. HD video recording at 720p, screen resolution has been increased to 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi, Three-axis gyroscope is added. Processor has been bumped up to 1GHz using the same Apple A4 chip found in iPad. For more details, check out the Design Page of iPhone 4.

It will be available on 24th June 2010 in 4 countries (US, France, Germany, UK, Japan) and in July 2010, 18 countries will be added to the list and that includes Singapore. In August 2010, 24 more countries will be added and in September 2010, 44 more countries will be added. To sum it up, Singapore will get the iPhone 4 in July 2010. I hope SingTel will be able to get it first this time round again which they did for iPhone 3G and 3GS. But on the flip side, I hope all 3 telecos will get at the same time, so that the crowd will be spread out.

There is no 64GB though, 16GB goes for USD$199 and 32GB goes for USD$299, which is the same price as iPhone 3GS when it is launched last year. So you can expect the price to be the same as iPhone 3GS when it comes here to Singapore as well.

BTW: SingTel launches the iPhone 3GS on 10th July 2009 last year, you can check out the iPhone 3GS price plans as well for reference.

Also, iPhone OS has been renamed to iOS which makes more sense as the OS is being used by iPad, iPod Touch as well. iOS will be out on 21st June 2010 for iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G onwards.

The only question I have is whether the phone will be SIM lock in the US. Just in case you didn’t know, in Singapore, SIM locked phones are not allowed and hence all iPhones in Singapore will be unlocked.

Check out the iPhone 4 video and the FaceTime video.

It is said that the Apple next generation iPhone aka “iPhone HD” was lost/dropped in a bar by Gray Powell, who is an Apple Software Engineer working on the iPhone Baseband Software. The iPhone was later found by someone else. Gizmodo rumored to have paid USD$5,000 for the prototype and did a dissect of it. The iPhone is not bootable because Apple remotely killed the phone assuming immediately the phone was reported lost by its employee. No I wonder how many heads is going to roll.

Apple Next Generation iPhone

I have mirrored the pictures from Gizmodo into Flicker:

Here are the breakdown, copy + paste from Gizmodo:

What’s New

Front-facing video chat camera

Improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)

Camera flash

Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)

Improved display. It’s unclear if it’s the 960×640 display thrown around before—it certainly looks like it, with the “Connect to iTunes” screen displaying much higher resolution than on a 3GS.

What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack

Split buttons for volume

Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic

What’s Change

The back is entirely flat, made of either glass (more likely) or ceramic or shiny plastic in order for the cell signal to poke through. Tapping on the back makes a more hollow and higher pitched sound compared to tapping on the glass on the front/screen, but that could just be the orientation of components inside making for a different sound

An aluminum border going completely around the outside

Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS (but seemingly higher resolution)

Everything is more squared off

3 grams heavier

16% Larger battery

Internals components are shrunken, miniaturized and reduced to make room for the larger battery

Source: Gizmodo: This Is Apple’s Next iPhone

Now can Gizmodo pass the phone to Geohot for jailbreak and iFixit for the internal guts!
