Garfield
Posted By Lester Chan at 17:46 in Blog

Saturday
Reach Singapore at around 12.30pm. Wanted to catch Bourne Supremacy at GV Tiong Bahru at 1.50pm, but couldn’t make it on time, thus I had lunch with my family at Alexander Village eating the Depot Road laksa. No idea why I was so thirsty at that time. Drank 4 types of drinks (soya bean, ice milk tea, banana milkshake and olong tea) while having my meal.

Came home meddle about with my computer. The 2nd phrase of Half-Life 2 pre-loading begun, this time it pre-loads around 900mb worth of audio data. Windows Media Player 10 has also been released. It has so much improvements compared to WMP 9.

Met up with LiXiang and Laily at Far East Plaza for some shopping. I didn’t buy anything though. I spend most of my money on food. Whenever I booked out, I always have cravings for desserts like ice cream, cakes and chocolates. Had dinner at Scotts foodcourt, tried out the stall, Chef@Work. It was rather good. It serves western food at a cheap price with a reasonable portion, even though it was not filling for me. NS guys always eat alot.

Had dessert at Blood Cafe. The cakes, drinks, salads and sandwiches there is fantastic but the price is rather expensive. Not many people know that there is a cafe inside Project Blood Brother Shop at Paragon.

Went to HMV to check out the release date of Fatboy Slim latest album, Palookaville. It will be release on 4th October 2004. Eminem will also be releasing his new album, Encore, on 16th November 2004.

Caught Garfield at Cineleisure at 9.30pm. Suppose to watch the 7.40pm show, but it was sold out even though LiXiang bought the tickets at 2pm. The movie was rather short, around 90 minutes. Overall the movie was ok, animation and physics of Garfield was rather excellent. Heard from Laily that 300 animators did the animation of Garfield.

Sunday
Had brunch at Akashi Japanese Restaurant at Tanglin Shopping Center before going to Orchard Road for a walk. My brother and I bought 2 Adidas polo shirt, it was a new design. My mom bought 1 Adidas t-shirt and a track pants. My family just love Adidas products.

Had dessert at Blood Cafe again, this time I tried the Cesar Salad and the Chocolate milkshake. The salad was good while the chocolate milkshake was excellent. It is the best milkshake I had drank so far.

Mom going to cook dinner tonight. Finally some home-cooked food.

Life In Tekong
Had SIT test on Monday to Wednesday. We had our 8km roadmarch to the SIT test site, which is at the reclaimed land. The roadmarch was not that shag because of the rest during the weekends. 1st day was all lectures. 2nd and 3rd day had our 4km fast march and 2km fast march respectively, and that was quite shag. They are supposed to shag us out before taking the test to see whether we can think when we are shag. The missions was quite fun, it involves alot of tieing ropes on the logs. The walking part before every missions is kinda fucked up, we walked round and round just to get to the next station, even though the next station is just behind us. Kinda lame.

Had BAC (Basic Assault Course) on Thursday, the final run down of BCCT, my whole uniform was very dirty, much more dirty than the BIC. But BAC is not as shag as BIC.

Had IPPT Trial test on Friday. Got 14 points in total, but still fail because of my chin-up. Did 51 sit-ups, 10.3s for shuttle run, 216cm for SBJ, 2 for chin-ups and 11.01 min for 2.4km. Finally I passed my SBJ and break the zero barrier for my chin-up, was quite happy about it even though I fail.

Initially there was RT (Remedial Training) because too many people fail 2.4km in the company, but after some clarification from the Sergeant Major with the PTI, it was the fault of the PTI timing. They are suppose to minus 2 minutes for the interval and not 1 minute. Was very relieved when I heard that.

Had many BTP (Basic Target Practise) this whole week to prepare for the live range. Kinda love the lesson because it is in the IMT, and IMT is air-conditioned.

Going to have my live range on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and live grenade throwing on Saturday. Which means I will book out on Saturday night instead of afternoon. =(

Alien vs Predator
Posted By Lester Chan at 15:29 in Blog

Thursday (Graduation Day)
Went back to school for breakfast at FC6. It feels weird when you are the only person wearing uniform, but soon after more NS guys in uniform came. Had wanton mee and seafood soup for lunch. Really missed the food/good old times there. Went to take a token of appreciation from Mr Ahmad for my WSC, it was a pen given by the principle of ICT.

The SP convention center is very nice, with 2 large screens on top on both sides. I was very impressed by it. The whole ceremony took about 2 hours. It was shorter than I expected. You are given 1 white card with barcode on it, once you reach the stage, you have to scan it, then it will read out your name and then you proceed to collect your empty scroll box. Very computerised.

Had a meal at Holland Village Swensens before going back to Tekong.

Another hurdle of studies had just been crossed.

Click here for the graduation photos.

Friday
Reach Singapore at around 7.30pm. First thing I did was go back and bath for 30 minutes, I had never felt that clean for the past 7 days of my field camp.

Had a late dinner at Holland Village’s Swensens, bought back some Ice Cream mooncake. Just love ice cream mooncake.

Met up with my secondary school friends for supper. It has been 3 weeks since I last met them. 1 of them going to ORD in 2 days time, time flies.

Saturday
Met up with LiXiang, Jackey and Johnson at Orchard Road for movie, Alien vs Predator. Also long time didn’t watch movie at Cineleisure because their Internet booking system sucks. They upgraded it, much better but still can’t beat GV’s one.

Got myself a Billabong’s handphone pouch.

Went to City Link’s Akashi Japanese Restaurant for dinner and on they way visited Comex 2004. The whole of Suntec City was VERY crowded. Apple 4g 20GB iPod is just going for $470 and 5 months ago, I bought the 3g 20gb for $748, really heart pain. Sighz.

Got myself a maglite for $29.95 which is using 2x AA batteries which can be used for outfield.

Chill out at Gelato Cafe, it was quite expensive but it is very nice. Had the Banana Waffle with 2 Scopes of ice cream and that cost me $11.30.

Sunday
Went to pray my granny and at the temple located at Waterloo Street because tomorrow is the 15th day of the hungry ghost festival.

Finally had a chance to eat Bak Kut Teh for breakfast after craving for it during the fieldcamp.

Went to Comex 2004 again, got a new digicam, Sony Cybershot DSC-T1. As usual, it will be property of my mom’s company. It is made in Japan and a 5.0MP camera. Got it for $849 with some free gifts. Got a Sony 128mb Memory Stick Duo, Scandisk 256mb Memory Stick Duo, tripod, cleaning kit, carrying case and a $50 Takashimaya shopping vouchers. So the camera just cost around $650 after minusing those stuffs. Wanted to get the TDK DVD DL writer, but it is sold out and I do not have the time to wait for the next batch to come. Think I will get it at Sitex 2004.

Had some light snacks at Marche before coming home.

Will be booking in very early tonight, need to reach Pasir Ris at 6.15pm because tomorrow I will be having my 8km road march and situational test. Another 3 days outfield. Sian.

Life In Tekong
For the past 7 days, I am outfield. You will be shag and dirty like you you never shag and dirty before. But as compared to other companies, I think our outfield quite welfare. We had 1 can drink everyday, had a BBQ session on the 5th day, got to shower on the 4th and 5th day and we got only 1 turn out. We got all these welfare because our OC will be quitting army soon and we are the last batch.

We did 2x 4km run in vest slack, tactical roadmarch in FBO, tactical movement, cover and concealment, firing of blanks, digging of trench and of course BIC (Battle Induction Course).

The reclaimed land is the worst, really a mosquitoes heaven. Mosquitoes fly around like flies. Took me 4 hours to dig the bloody god damn trench there. Had a turn out on that night at 4.30am. Luckily I was awoken by many blue light sticks walking around and I got ready my stuffs before that. As soon as the sergeants threw the thunder flash, I am the first one to take my field pack and got out of my shell script. I feel so proud of that. LOL

Just left with sit test, live grenade throwing and range. Just another 3 more weekends and that marks the end of BMT for me hopefully.

SP Graduation Ceremony 2004
Posted By Lester Chan at 22:19 in Blog

My platoon commander must be in a good mood yesterday because he give me such a good book in timing. My graduation ceremony will start tomorrow at 2pm, but must be seated by 1pm. He gave us earlier book out with is today at 8pm and book in tomorrow at 8.30pm. Is more than a day off. Weee..

Finally after studying 3 years, I will be getting my piece of paper tomorrow. Really miss those studying days where the only stress comes from exams and projects, life was quite carefree with less worries.

Those were the days.

Had a SOC rundown today, 500m run + clear all obstacles + another 500m run. Managed to clear all except the low wall. Is bloody shag. I think now I can “fly through” the whole SOC without SBO and rifle.

I also notice that there are not much night training towards the end of PTP till middle of BMT.

Catwoman
Posted By Lester Chan at 22:33 in Blog

Saturday
Reach Singapore at around 12.15pm. My mom finally found the location of the Depot’s Road Laksa. It is now at Alexandra Village Hawker Center, Stall 01-75. Finally can have my favourite Laksa for lunch.

Went to Toyota’s showroom, my mom bought a Toyota Vios and scraping her present car which is a Toyota Soluna. The car will come in October and just nice I can drive it after my POP. I still dare not drive my dad’s car because it is new and the pick-up speed is a little too fast for me to control.

Met up with LiXiang, Serene and Jackey at Marina Square for Catwoman. The movie is quite ok, visual effects is good and Halle Barry is cool. Quite worth the money.

Had dinner at Suntec City’s Cartel because I took $40 voucher from my brother. After that went to NYDC for dessert. The service of NYDC is always so good, really don’t mind paying the 10%.

Sunday
Had lunch at Akashi Japanese Restaurant located somewhere opposite Orchard Hotel, they also have a branch at City Link. The set meals are very reasonable. A tempura set is only $12. The sushi is a little bit more expensive, but is is very very nice. The reverse California roll is around $8 for 8 pieces. The Unagi roll is very expensive, 1 piece cost $4, but it is very worth it.

Walked round Orchard Road before going back home.

Got my hands on CS:Source beta, it is really a major improvement over CS 1.6, the engine and physics is cool. I hope it is the beta that cause the lag because when I set everything highest at 1280×1024, it lag a little. Can’t wait for Half-Life 2 that will be out somewhere in September.

Caught Twins Effect 2 at GV Grand, it is a crap movie. Don’t bother watching it, it is not worth the time and the money. It is the lamest Chinese movie I have ever saw. No storyline, just fight and fight. Is like a movie showing off visual effects. Consider it a Chinese movie, the visual effect still not that bad. Totally no linkage with Twins Effect 1 and it disgrace Twins Effect 1.

Life In Tekong
This week will be booking in on Monday because next Saturday will be my field camp and I can’t book out. Learnt IFC this week, completed all my 8 BCCT lessons. Managed to did 2 pull ups and cleared the low rope for SOC. When it comes to SOC with SBO and rifle and it is a different story. Is really shag till I can’t clear the Swing Trainer.

I think field camp is really welfare. We need to pay $10 and we can get a can of drink everyday and on the 5th day of the field camp, we will be having a BBQ. I was very shocked when I heard that from my platoon sergeant.

38 days more to POP.

*Update* Will be back on 28th August 2004.

Happy 39th Birthday Singapore
Posted By Lester Chan at 15:30 in Blog

This will be a fairly long post.

Friday
Booked out at 8pm, reach Singapore at around 8.30pm. Had dinner with my parents at Changi Village eating the famous Nasi Lemak. Came home uploaded my site on the new server, had some SQL problems because phpMyAdmin SQL dump sucks, after dumping the SQL file, phpMyAdmin could not read it. No choice had to manually create the tables and use the dump to insert the values.

Saturday
Woke up at 5.30am, had breakfast at Pasir Panjang before going to Singapore Discovery Center/SAFTI to visit OCS. It was really a waste of my time, nothing much especially the SDC Part, went to watched a movie called “On Guard”, it was quite cool, but after that there is this Indian old man who is fucking long winded talk to us on history of Singapore. Suppose to end at 12.45pm, end up thanks to his long wind, we were dismissed at 1.15pm. The OCS visit was quite ok, the parade ground is cool.

Met up with LiXiang to watch The Village at GV Marina. The show was quite ok, very twisted show and hence I like the storyline. The show was very very boring in the beginning and in the middle, but luckily the end was good.

After the show, went to XiuHui birthday dinner at Cartel at Plaza Singapura. People who were there includes Xiu Hui, Fiona, Lynn, ZiWei, Ron, Lester Goh and Wei Jian. As usual, we always talk about NS stuffs, but commandos training is really tough and strict, BMTC considered “good life” compared to Hendon Camp.

Thanks to Wei Jian for the ride home.

Sunday
Went to Suntec City, wanted to eat at “The Rice Table Indonesian Restaurant”, but it was fully booked even before it opened, no choice, my mom reserved a table for tomorrow instead. Bought a Nike tri-fit shirt from Nike Bird.

There is fireworks going on at night at Marina area, thus the whole area was in a major jam, I mean very serious jam. Suppose to eat at Long Beach Marina, but due to lack of parking space, we end up eating at a Teochew restaurant at Concourse. The food there was quite ok.

At 9.15pm, received a call from Pegasus COS, asking me to be back at 11pm to do guard duty, I called my sergeant and say I definitely can’t make it because I am still outside and there is a jam going on. Luckily he said ok and I called back the COS and told him that my sergeant said it is ok. Then the COS just say “Oh, if your sergeant say ok, means ok loh”. I was like WTF?

Then at 12mn, I got a missed called from Pegasus COS again.

Monday
Went to pray at Waterloo Street before going for lunch at “The Rice Table Indonesian Restaurant” at Suntec City. Bought a CD entitled “Hot+Hard! 3″. I was still contemplating whether or not to return the call. So after asking my friend who is a sergeant in J coy, he say better to return. So I returned. If I am not wrong it is a lieutenant who answer my call. Then he just say “Oh never mind, we call you to ask you to see whether you can do guard duty, but now never mind, the guard duty personals is here.” I was again like WTF?

Booking in at 9.15pm. Quite late for today.

And ya, today is Singapore’s 39th Birthday.

Life In Tekong
Last week was quite slack actually, had a IPPT cat test, first aid test and a technical handling test. Passed all the test except for my IPPT cat test as usual. This time I only failed 2 stations, pull-up and SBJ. My 2.4km had improved to 11:21 minutes from 12:34 minutes, and thus a silver for it, my situp also had improved, from 46 to 49, a gold for it, my shuttle run had also improved from 10.7 to 10.5.

Had 2 lessons of BCCT, learnt rifle combat on the 7th lesson. I think another 2 more lessons to go.

Brotherhood
Posted By Lester Chan at 14:33 in Blog

Saturday
Booked out at 9.30am, it was early because I think there is a Parents Visiting session going on during lunch and they don’t want to jam the ferry terminal.

Had the famous minced pork noodle for lunch with my parents before meeting LiXiang for lunch at Ngee Ann City’s Mos Burger. Met up with Jackey and Laily for Brotherhood movie at Plaza Singapore. The show is around 140 minutes long. It is quite a good show, very touching. The show was released quite sometime ago and the cinema is still full house.

Kenny, Serene and Suqin joined us later for a dinner at Shima Aji located at Esplanade. It is a treat from LiXiang because she has gotten her first pay and her pay is the highest among all of us. The service is really fucked up, and I really see no effort in their service. As the Yakiniku is outdoors, they did not station and waiters/waitresses outside, rather all 5 of them are all inside serving. All of us was quite fed up about it.

Chill out at Pacific Coffee above City Link, it opened till 12mn, so next time can chill out there rather than the Pacific Coffee in City Link Mall.

Sunday
Had breakfast at Ah Kun’s Kaya Toast located near Far East Square before proceeding to Orchard with my parents for a walk. Went to Queensway Shopping Center to make my black specs as my Seiko specs of 6 years is starting to give way. Too bad my degree is too high, 650 on the right and 675 on the left, thus they don’t have the lens and I have to wait till tomorrow to collect it and I can only use it on my next book in.

Will be booking in early tonight, need to reach Pasir Ris Interchange by 8pm.

Life In Tekong
This week we had our Weapon Presentation Ceremony, once you got your weapon is very troublesome. Learnt some technical handling on our weapon. Stripping and assembling the weapon in 1 minute is easy, but loading 30 rounds inside the magazine withing 50 seconds is very difficult. Had my 5th BCCT lesson on Friday, just 3 more lessons to go.

IPPT cat test on Tuesday, SOC on Thursday, visiting SAFTI on Saturday and hoping that we can book out on Friday night because all companies that are visiting SAFTI on Saturday get to book out on Friday night.

3rd week BMT starts tomorrow.

I, Robot
Posted By Lester Chan at 15:40 in Blog

Saturday
Reached Singapore at 11.30am. I am not fated to eat the Depot Road Laksa. There was one more branch at West Coast Block 501, went there with my parents and it didn’t open, even though it stated that it will be close on Friday only. End up eating roast meat/duck there. Not too bad.

Met up with LiXiang and Jackey to watched I, Robot at GV Marina. The movie is quite cool and I kinda like those futuristic movies, quite worth the $8.50 compared to King Author. The story is set in 2035 AD. The Audi car is way cool.

Kenny met up with us for dinner. Went to a Japanese Restaurant at Ngee Ang City B2 for dinner. The food there was quite taste quite ok but just abit saltish.

Went to the new Sony Gallery at Wisma Atria 4th level. It was quite big and all the latest Sony gadgets that will be soon be available in Singapore are all there.

Chill out at an Italian cafe just outside Wisma, the ambiance was good, but the bar beside it have a live band and I think is better. Next week shall try there.

Sunday
Had brunch at Swensen in Bugis Junction. My mom wanted to use my grandmother line to upgrade to Nokia 6230 but the plan was not eligible for the upgrade because it was too cheap.

It is now the Heritage festival, thus there was a gallery full of pictures taken during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. It was quite cool seeing how people, environment in Singapore evolved.

Booking in later at 9.15pm. Mom will be cooking Claypot rice for dinner.

Life In Tekong
Monday was the slackest day in the whole ptp phrase.

Tuesday, at night the sergents asked us to bring snacks and buy can drinks and proceed to our coy rest room to watched Freaky Friday. I got a shocked, maybe it was the last day of our ptp, thus we need to enjoy while we can.

Wednesday, BMT starts.

Thursday, new enlistees came in, because of that, we march thru and fro from cook house 3, 3 times because there was a miscommunication or rather cock up between our COS and our DI. 3 recoursee joined our platoon.

Friday, so far the xiongest day and also our most fucked up day. Even simplest thing like falling in, we can also cock up. I think we have to blame the day because whatever we do on that day also cock up, we really deserved the punishment.

Took 2 lessons of Basic Close Combat Training (BCCT), the instructor is really fierce, can see that our whole coy is really afraid of him, but I like the lessons. There will be a total of 8 lessons.

Also took 2 lecture lessons on First Aid, first lesson forgot to bring my writing materials, because I didn’t know we are going for lecture. Going to get guard duty for that. But I think it will be long before my turn, because there are too many person on the waiting list.

Passed my Swimming Cat test, thus I will get my admin time during swimming lessons.

I think next week will be my last week booking out on Saturday afternoon because on 2nd August 2004 will be my IPPT cat test, and if I fail (which probably I will), I need to stay back for RT, thus is either book out on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.

Lester Goh is in Raven Platoon 2, Section 4, shall go look for him tonight.

POP On 23rd September 2004, Field Camp On 21st August 2004.

End Of PTP
Posted By Lester Chan at 16:21 in Blog

Saturday
Wanted to eat Depot Road’s Claypot Laksa, but couldn’t find it. They have another branch at West Coast, also could not find it. The new MacDonald’s outlet at West Coast is cool, very nice ambiance.

Met up with Jackey, LiXiang and Laily to do some shopping around Orchard. Got myself a 256MB RS-MMC card from Heeren’s PK Computer and an Adidas Polo Shirt. I kinda like Adidas stuff now over fourskin because fourskin the t-shirt quality is dropping.

Went to GV Marina to watched King Authur, the show was around 2 hours long and it was just average. Nothing special about it. I only like the arrows visual effect. Looking forward to i-Robot next week.

Had dinner at Marina Hans. Throughout the day, saw lots of my platoon mates and friends around Orchard and Suntec area. Guess the only days we can enjoy is weekends.

Met up with Victor and Calvin for supper at River Valley, also another coincidence, saw our another close friend who is going to ORD, end up 4 of us had quite a chat about NS.

Sunday
Had brunch at Lei Garden. It was my grandfather treat because he had struck lottery after dreaming of the number. He was so lucky. Went to Heeren again, bought another Adidas Polo Shirt and my brother bought an Adidas Shoe. It seems that my whole family is crazy over Adidas now.

Had 25 eStamps, used 20 of them to renew my Heer Card till December 2005. I just love the Heer card.

Mom will be cooking Laksa later for dinner using the paste from Prima. Long time since I ate Laksa.

Life In Tekong
5th Week of PTP seems to be very slack even though there are 2 SOC lessons and 1 Road March. We are suppose to take the IPPT disruption test #2, but on that day morning, we are called to the Multi-Purpose Hall (MPH) for a last minute briefing by our CO. It seems that one guy from Orion Company had a virus which attack his heart and he went into coma. He was helicopter out of Tekong to CGH. My 2IC said his condition was critical but stable and is our of ICU.

Thus, our coy those with flu and cough within the past 2 weeks are not suppose to take the IPPT test. Out of around 180 people, only 6 took the test, 3 from our platoon and only 1 pass which is also from our platoon.

We keep getting stand by universe because of this.

This coming Tuesday will mark the end of PTP, Wednesday will be enlistment day and BMT will start this coming Thursday.

Happy Birthday Mom
Posted By Lester Chan at 17:16 in Blog

Saturday
Book out an hour early because all the instructors have a specialists parade, thus instead of 12pm fastcraft, we took the 10.45am fastcraft.

Wanted to have Depot Road’s Laksa for lunch, but it seems that the whole stall has disappeared from the coffeeshop, I think they are going to tear down the whole building. End up having lunch at Great World City’s Food Junction.

Met up with LiXiang, Laily, Serene, Jackey, Terry to celebrate Geargina 20th birthday at Ajisen in Plaza Singapura. Plaza Singapura is also having the Fujitsu 72 hours cold challenge, sounds like endurance training to me. LOL. Went to Starbucks for coffee and Baker’s Inn for dessert later. Now the girls can eat more than me.

Walked down to Heeren later, passed by the food street (Singapore Food Festival 2004) opposite OG Orchard, it was very crowded, heard that the fried oyster is good, hope I have the time to try it before it ends.

Nowadays, most of us all sleep early and wake up early, unlike our poly life where we sleep at 2am. Really miss those days. Now I came to understand why our parents always say that studying is always better. When we are young we like to work instead of study. As we grow older, we like to study rather than work.

Sunday
Today is my mom birthday, went to a Chinese Restaurant in Orchard Hotel for lunch. Kinda like the food there. Went to Heeren to do some shopping. My brother and mom bought a Adidas Climacool shirt. I wanted to get one too, but too bad the size I wanted ran out of stock. Have to wait till next week.

Bought a Converse shirt and shorts using my $50 voucher that I won during SP ICT D&D lucky draw.

My mom will be cooking dinner and I need to reach Pasir Ris by 8.35pm. I hate tomorrow field pack inspection, especially the 1 minute all-in, all-out part. I fucking hate that.

Life In Tekong
As expected, failed my IPPT test. I am mentally prepared not to disrupt and straight go to BMT. My platoon only got 5 disruptees out of 45 people, see how united we are. Shuttle Run: 10.7, Situp: 46, Pullup: 0, SBJ: 198, 2.4km: 12:34. I hope I can do at least 1 pull up by next week, if not all the zero fighters will get trained by our beloved Sergent Major.

Took ATT B for 3 days because of headache and giddiness. 3 people from my platoon collapse last week. 1 from dehydration, 1 from tense muscle and 1 from giddiness.

Got our first canteen break on Friday because our PC saw lots of effort put in for the IPPT disruption test #1.

Next week going to be a xiong week. 1 4km road march, 2 SOC lessons, 1 ET run and IPPT disruption test #2. BMT will start on 21st July 2004 for us. POP is on 26th September 2004.

Happy Belated 20th Birthday Geargina
Happy Birthday Mom

See ya guys next week.
