6th Anniversary
Posted by Lester Chan at 21:31 in Blog

It is our 6th anniversary! We celebrated by having a night stay at The Scarlet Hotel. On the way to the hotel, we bought Koi Bubble tea since our bus stop right outside the stall.

After checking in, we watched Toy Story 3, it was good. I think this third installment is better than the first and second one.

We went to the gym later. The gym is small and we are the only one in the gym. There is no swimming pool here just a small Jacuzzi and similar to the gym, there was no one else using the Jacuzzi besides us. I like the way they name the room. The gym is called Flaunt and the Jacuzzi is called Soda.

We wanted to have our dinner at Breeze @ Scarlet but the weather looks like it is going to rain and hence we went to Outback at Millenia Walk for dinner instead.

After dinner went for a drink at Bold @ Scarlet as we got complimentary jug of house pour and 12 sticks of chicken satay. We chose Vodka Lime for our house pour and it was pretty diluted.

As part of our 1 Nights 2 DaysZED package, we have 2 complimentary tickets to Zouk but we did not want to go because it is kinda out of the way.

Breakfast was at Desire @ Scarlet. Food was alright but choices are very limited.

We paid SGD$230++ which sums up to about SGD$270 for the 1 Nights 2 DaysZED package. This promotion end on 31st December 2010.

The Event
Posted by Lester Chan at 08:03 in Event

Was invited to the screening of the The Event (Wikipedia) by Universal Channel. I heard of The Event on Hardware Zone Forums way before that but totally forgotten about it.

From Wikipedia:

The Event (typographically stylized THE EVƎNT) is an American political thriller and science fiction television series created by Nick Wauters for NBC. The show centers on three plots: Sean Walker, a computer programmer, whose girlfriend is kidnapped; President Elias Martinez, who must deal with detainees at Mount Inostranka; and the detainees themselves and their non-terrestrial origin.

After watching the premiere yesterday, I find it is a mix of the conspiracy theory in Prison Break with Flash Forward. There is a cliff hanger in every episode of The Event, but it will always be revealed in either the next or subsequence episode unlike Flash Forward where it only get revealed at the end of the whole season and perhaps that is the reason why it was canned after the first season.

Personally I dislike the flashback of multiple timeline of The Event, it is quite confusing at the start of each episode but nevertheless at the end of each episode, they manage to glue them together.

The Event will premiere today, Wednesday, 20th October 2010 at 9pm on Universal Channel (StarHub 512) and there will be 22 episodes in season 1.

Will be adding the The Event to my “to watch” list on top of my weekly dose of The Fringe and The Mentalist.

Fabrix Booklet For iPad
Posted by Lester Chan at 16:02 in Gadget

Received a complimentary Fabrix Booklet For iPad (USD$59.90) from Fabrix Cases. I was quite surprised they send it to me. Maybe because I bought a few cases from them. The first was for my MacBook Pro, the second was for my netbook and iPhone 3Gs and the third was a sleeve for my iPad which I forgot to blog about it.

I think I will be using this case from now on. There is like 3x iPad 16GB 3G + Wi-Fi in my family and all 3 are using the default Apple iPad Case, so it is hard to differentiate which iPad belongs to who if they are placed together.

If you are a fan of Fabrix like me, you can check out their Blog, Twitter, Facebook or Flickr.

They have revamped their website and now instead of having a separate store for Singapore, they have only 1 international store and the prices has been changed to USD. Fabrix is offering a 10% discount for orders above USD$50.

The Social Network
Posted by Lester Chan at 08:46 in Blog, Movie

The Social Network (IMDB) (Wiki) is essentially a movie about how Facebook got started by Mark Zuckerberg in his Harvard Dormitory room.

I doubt some parts of the story is true like Mark owned 51% of Facebook but actually he owns 24% of it. But perhaps things change over the years.

Some parts are true like how Sean Parker the co-founder of Napster is involved in Facebook, Harvard Connection, etc.

I wonder does Mark Zuckerberg Facebook namecard really says “I am a CEO, bitch”.

Bill Gates does a cameo in the movie talking about BASIC but it was not actually him but the no. 1 Bill Gates impersonator in the world. However the voice is real.

The computer OS used in the movie is Linux and not Windows or Mac. Some technical jargons were used in the movie like Apache Config, PHP, Perl, WGET, EMAC, etc.

The Social Network Poster

Overall it is a pretty good movie, I strongly recommend you to catch it.

PS: Mark Zuckerberg is born in the same year as me (1984) and so is Matt Mullenweg, founder of WordPress. Mark is worth USD$6.9 billion which makes him the world’s youngest billionaire!
