Some Plugins Finalized

Sunday, May 6th, 2007

I have updated this site with the following plugins:
» WP-DBManager 2.11
» WP-Email 2.11
» WP-PageNavi 2.11
» WP-PostRatings 1.11
» WP-PostViews 1.11
» WP-Print 2.11
» WP-RelativeDate 1.11
» WP-Stats 2.11
» WP-Sticky 1.00

All of them should be finalized unless there is a last minute bug. I am testing WP-DBManager automatic scheduling of backing up of database, so far so good.

I hope I can release all of them on 1st June 2007. I am left with WP-Ban, WP-Polls and WP-UserOnline as documented on GaMerZ.Wiki.

Plugins Update Delayed

Friday, May 4th, 2007

Most of my plugins update which is intended to be released for May will be delayed for about 2 months because I got a freelance/contract job which I have to complete urgently as my client had paid me 40% down payment.

If you have a basic knowledge of SVN, you can get all the latest updates for my plugins straight from WordPress Plugins SVN. They are stable.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding.

Plugins To-Do List

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

I used to keep a to-do list of all my plugins in a .txt file, but since I have installed a wiki, I might as well post it there. It is kept up to date as often as possible.

WP-Polls 2.20 Logs

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Someone mentioned in the forums that since WP-Polls 2.20 allows users to vote for multiple answers, it make sense to revamp the whole logging part of WP-Polls and to allow administrator better understand his site’s voters preference.

I have since done so but it is still in a planning stages, comments and ideas are all welcomed. Here is a screenshot to get my point across.

I have removed the poll’s log from the Edit Poll and move it to its own page called log. There will be paging in the log page for sure.

There are 3 main ways you can filter the logs.

1. You can choose to display all the users that voted for a certain answers in a poll and you can choose what type voters you want to display.

2. View the answer voted by registered users or comment authors. It will not support guests.

3. You can choose to display the users who voted for more than 2 answers and what they voted for. This option is only available if the poll supports multiple answers.

Registered Users - It means the user is registered with your WordPress blog.
Comment Authors - Visitors who posted comments in your blog before and hence we are able to get his name/nickname via the cookies. 2 comment authors may share the same name, so it is not 100% accurate.
Guests - Self explanatory

WP-Polls 2.20 Updates

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

I have make the following additions/changes to WP-Polls 2.20:

NEW: Poll Archive Link Template
NEW: Poll Templates Has Now Its Own Page ‘WP-Admin -> Polls -> Poll Templates’
NEW: Poll Widget Can Now Display Multiple Polls
FIXED: Poll Archive Will Now Show Only Polls That Are Closed

I hope I can released WP-Polls 2.20 in mid May 2007.

I have left 1 more task to do which I have no idea how to design it; To improve the Edit Poll page where it shows a list of IP addresses of the users who voted for the poll. Imagine you got 4000+ people who voted for the poll like the sample poll you see on the right sidebar. It will be a nightmare when it comes to editing the poll (due to the time taken to render the page).

WP-PageNavi Updates

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

I have to go along with the web trend. My old WP-PageNavi style is outdated and I need to do something about it.

And hence, I modified the style to make it look like Digg (bottom of the page). You also can take a look at the bottom of this page to for an example.

This changes will be in WP-PageNavi 2.11. I have made it in such a way that every aspect of WP-PageNavi is customizable. The text that is displayed can be configured in WP-Admin -> Options -> PageNavi and the style can be configured via CSS in pagenavi-css.css

See the screenshots for more information, WP-PageNavi Screenshots.

You can configure WP-Sticky options in ‘WP-Admin -> Options -> Sticky‘.

You can find the post’s ‘Sticky‘ Option under ‘Post Sticky Status‘ Options in the ‘Write/Edit Post Screen‘.

Need support, post it in here, WP-Sticky Support Forums.

Last but not least, read the readme.html file and NOTE the tabs.

*UPDATE* WP-Sticky is now out of beta, download WP-Sticky 1.00.

WP-Sticky New Ideas

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

I was thinking of not using the wp_postmeta table to tell where a post is sticky or not. Instead, I will use a new table called wp_poststicky to denotes all posts sticky status. Whenever you create a new post, a new row will be created in the wp_poststicky table.

0 will denote normal posts
1 will denote sticky posts
2 will denote announcement post.

Now I need to explain what is the difference between sticky posts and announcements posts.

Currently sticky posts are posts which will appear at the top of the page, I will change that name to be called announcement posts instead.

Now sticky posts will be referred as posts that will only stay on top of all the posts which is posted on the same day as the sticky post. My command of English is not that good, hope you are understand what I mean with the following example:

Announcement
- Post 5 (Announcement Post)

29th March 2007
- Post 6
- Post 7
- Post 8

28th March 2007
- Post 4 (Sticky Post)
- Post 1
- Post 2
- Post 3

As you can see, Post 4 is a sticky post and it will stay on top of all posts that is posted on 28th March 2007 ONLY, posts that are posted after 28th March 2007 (eg. 29th March 2007) will still be on top of the sticky post that is posted on 28th March 2007.

But for Post 5, which is an announcement post, it will stay on top of all posts.

Think of it as a feature in forum softwares in which announcement will appear in all forums and sticky topics will only appear in a particular forum.

This feature will be in the final version of WP-Sticky 1.00. Other features planned for future versions include auto un-announce, auto un-sticky posts after a certain number of days of date.

*UPDATED* 3rd December 2007
Uncle Bubba wrote:
When you login and write/manage a post you’ll see “Post Sticky Status” down in the lower right hand corner. There are three options “Announcement”, “Sticky”, and “None”. Announcement makes a post always on top no matter what. Sticky keeps it at the top of that day’s posts. So, say you made 4 posts on Wednesday and made one sticky, the sticky one would stay on top of Wednesday’s posts. If you then make a post on Thursday it will appear on top of all of Wednesday’s posts but underneath the Announcement post.
