WP-Polls 2.20 Logs

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

Someone mentioned in the forums that since WP-Polls 2.20 allows users to vote for multiple answers, it make sense to revamp the whole logging part of WP-Polls and to allow administrator better understand his site’s voters preference.

I have since done so but it is still in a planning stages, comments and ideas are all welcomed. Here is a screenshot to get my point across.

I have removed the poll’s log from the Edit Poll and move it to its own page called log. There will be paging in the log page for sure.

There are 3 main ways you can filter the logs.

1. You can choose to display all the users that voted for a certain answers in a poll and you can choose what type voters you want to display.

2. View the answer voted by registered users or comment authors. It will not support guests.

3. You can choose to display the users who voted for more than 2 answers and what they voted for. This option is only available if the poll supports multiple answers.

Registered Users - It means the user is registered with your WordPress blog.
Comment Authors - Visitors who posted comments in your blog before and hence we are able to get his name/nickname via the cookies. 2 comment authors may share the same name, so it is not 100% accurate.
Guests - Self explanatory

WP-Polls 2.20 Updates

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

I have make the following additions/changes to WP-Polls 2.20:

NEW: Poll Archive Link Template
NEW: Poll Templates Has Now Its Own Page ‘WP-Admin -> Polls -> Poll Templates’
NEW: Poll Widget Can Now Display Multiple Polls
FIXED: Poll Archive Will Now Show Only Polls That Are Closed

I hope I can released WP-Polls 2.20 in mid May 2007.

I have left 1 more task to do which I have no idea how to design it; To improve the Edit Poll page where it shows a list of IP addresses of the users who voted for the poll. Imagine you got 4000+ people who voted for the poll like the sample poll you see on the right sidebar. It will be a nightmare when it comes to editing the poll (due to the time taken to render the page).

WP-Polls 2.20 Beta 1 Test

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

WP-Polls 2.20 Beta 1 is out the door. As usual, please do not run it on a live site as it is still in a beta stage. There are A LOT of changes between WP-Polls 2.14 and WP-Polls 2.20. 2 major ones are the implementation of polls that allow users to choose multiple answers and AJAX used in the administration panel.

I will try to capture screenshots for all of my plugins when I have the time to do so in addition to the live demo mainly because the administration panel cannot be shown. WP-Polls is the first plugin to get screenshoted.

Screenshots: http://www.lesterchan.net/wordpress/screenshots/browse/wp-polls/

WP-Polls 2.20 RC 1 has been released.

If you downloaded it, please feedback to me via the Support Forums or by email.

Thank You.

Total Voters And Total Votes

Friday, February 9th, 2007

I have reviewed how Invision Board and vBulletin implemented their multiple answers poll and I have decided to use it on WP-Polls. As of now, there will be a new term called Total Voters. This term will contain the number of voters who voted for the poll.

If you are using a poll which allow single answer only, your Total Voters = Total Votes because 1 user can only choose 1 vote.

But if you have a poll which allows multiple answers to be selected, Total Voters will mean the total number of uses that voted for your poll and Total Votes will mean the total number of votes that has been casted on your poll.

For example, if a user selected 3 answers for the poll, the Total Voters will only be incremented by 1, but on the other hand, the Total Votes will be incremented by 3 because that user selected 3 answers.

If anyone of you need clearer explanation, just post it in the comments. Just give me 1 more week before I release WP-Polls 2.20 beta for testing.

WP-Polls Multiple Options

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

I always wanted to implement this feature into WP-Polls, now I have finally done it. I think with this new feature, I am going to increase the version of WP-Polls straight to 2.20 instead of 2.15.

I will need people to test it before I release it out to the public. If you have some interest in it and love playing around with plugins, do me a favor and leave a comment in this post. Let me see what are the response like.

Thank you.

WP-Polls 2.15 Beta Test

Tuesday, February 6th, 2007

Just wondering if anyone of you here want to beta test WP-Polls 2.15? I need people to test it because the administration panel of WP-Polls has undergone a major change. But please do not use it on a live site as it is still a beta product.

If you downloaded it, please feedback to me via the Support Forums or by email.

Thank You.

WP-Polls Administration Panel Update

Monday, February 5th, 2007

I think it is time for me to update WP-Polls Administration Panel as the code hasn’t been change much since WordPress 1.5.2.

Things I have in mind:
» AJAX used for almost everything with the exception of Adding/Editing Poll and Uninstallation Of WP-Polls
» Adding Poll will have its own tab rather than in Manage Poll Tab
» Uninstall Poll will also have its own tab rather than in Manage Poll Tab

The deleting of polls under the Manage Poll Tab will be something like when you delete WordPress categories, those fanciful fading will be included =)

Poll/Rating AJAX Style Option

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

I have added 2 minor features to WP-PostRatings and WP-Polls. It is the ability to choose whether to show the loading image with text and the fading in and out of the poll/rating.

Some of you may not like the loading image with text, and now your wish came true, you can choose not to display it under the respective options menu.

For those CSS validating freaks, the opacity CSS value for wp-polls and wp-postratings will not pass CSS validation at W3. Now all you have to do is remove those lines in the respective css file and choose “No” for “Show Fading In And Fading Out Of Polls/Ratings”

One last thing before I end, as you all may know, if polls or ratings is embedded within the post, when viewing feed for the post, the post content might appear unsightly, so now let me gather your feedback to this issue with a poll.

Time Frame For Upgrading To WordPress 2.6?

New Support Forums
Hi guys,

The support forums for my plugins is at http://forums.lesterchan.net. I have just “reformatted” it to Simple Machines. If you run into any problems with my plugin, kindly post it in the forums.

If I do not answer your question within 3 days, feel free to bump it as I may miss it.

Updates
My exams are over, hopefully I can start work on the WP-Downloads and update some of my plugins. My main focus here is to get version 3 of my site out and then all the plugins will roll out accordingly because the new site will need them. Be patient with me =)

WP-Polls 2.13
It is more or less ready to be released, I will release it sometime this week, latest by next week. It features bug fixes, poll bar styling option in Polls -> Poll Options (allowing you to use CSS or Image) and most importantly I have internationalize (no idea whether is it the right word to use) it, so now you can translate wp-polls into your own language just by modifying the .po file.
