All of them should work on WordPress 2.8 as I did not test them on any WordPress version below that.

Now my plugins uses jQuery for AJAX instead of TW-Sack. I have also updated the widget code to make use of the new WordPress 2.8 new Widget class and that supports multi-instances widgets. The widget code has now been merge with the main plugin file so the standalone widget plugin file is no longer in use. Please delete the whole plugin folder and upload it again to avoid any error.

As WordPress 2.8 supports loading of JavaScript in the footer, all my plugins’ JavaScripts will be loaded in the footer. Be sure you have in your theme footer.php.

  • WP-Polls and WP-PostRatings uses JavaScript on the frontend as well as the backend
  • WP-Email and WP-UserOnline uses JavaScript on the frontend only
  • WP-ServerInfo uses JavaScript on the backend only

Unfortunately the changes require at least WordPress 2.8 onwards to make use of the JavaScript enhancements in WordPress 2.8. I have updated this site to WordPress 2.8 Bleeding Edge aka WordPress 2.8 Nightly in order to test the JavaScript changes on a live site.

If you view the HTML source of this page, you will notice that only the CSS files get loaded in the header and the JavaScript gets loaded in the footer.

If you are running WordPress 2.8 bleeding edge, perhaps you can help me test out the plugins. Thanks in advanced :)

The JavaScripts are packed using Dean Edward’s Packer and the only framework use just for AJAX is TW-Sack or Simple AJAX Code-Kit (SACK). TW-Sack is extremely lightweight and easy to use but unfortunately, it can be used only for AJAX purposes. The reason I used TW-Sack instead of jQuery is simple, at the time I created my plugin, jQuery does not exists yet and when jQuery becomes popular the reason why I didn’t upgrade it was because I was lazy. As the saying goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Recently there is some buzz within the WordPress Development Team regarding WordPress’s JavaScript Usage. Andrew Ozz has written two articles on it in the WordPress Development Updates blog entitled Optimizing script loading, Optimizing script loading part 2 and Optimizing script loading, implementation. With the upcoming WordPress 2.8 will feature some heavy JavaScript changes, I told myself to make use of this chance to totally revamped the JavaScripts in my plugins. Here are the changes that will be made:

  • Minified JavaScript instead of packing them
  • Replaced TW-Sack with jQuery
  • Move JavaScript to the footer
  • Use wp_localize_script() for JavaScript text translation
  • javascript-js.js will now contain the minified code for normal usage
  • javascript-js.dev.js will now contain the unminified code for development purposes

I have already done it for WP-PostRatings and it is now running live on this site. Next, I will be doing WP-UserOnline, followed by WP-Email and lastly WP-Polls as it is more complex.

Here is my December 2008 WordPress plugins update containing all my 15 WordPress plugins update and 1 new WordPress plugin. All of them should work on WordPress 2.7 as I did not test them on any WordPress version below that.

I am introducing a new plugin called WP-CommentNavi which basically paginate your comments similar to how WP-PageNavi paginate your posts. I am also retiring WP-Sticky as WordPress 2.7 has a sticky post feature built in. WP-Sticky 2.31 WILL NOT work on WordPress 2.7 due to a conflict function “is_sticky”. If you renamed that function to “is_sticky2″ or something else, it should work, but as usual I did not test it.

*UPDATE* Due to the large number of requests, I decided not to retire WP-Sticky and I have updated it to 1.40 and it is now compatible with WordPress 2.7.

Here is my July 2008 WordPress plugins update containing all my 15 WordPress plugins. All of them should work on WordPress 2.5 as well as WordPress 2.6. It is not tested for any version below that.

In general, most of the updates are bug fixes. These updates in theory should be able to work till WordPress 2.7 when it comes out end of this year.

My new semester will begin on 2nd week August 2008, and hence I will be busy with my school work. So no updates to my plugins will be out till the end of this year unless it is a critical bug or a security issue.

Finally, I have gotten rid of .php and now the only two Javascript files in WP-PostRatings are in .js and best of all, they are packed using Dean Edward’s Packer. This will not only reduce the size of the Javascript file but also lessen the load on the server as .js files can be served as static files which requires no overhead in processing.

Here is the first wave of my June 2008 plugins update containing 11 plugins. The remaining 4 plugins (WP-Ban, WP-DBManager, WP-DownloadManager and WP-PostViews) shall be in wave 2. All of them should work only on WordPress 2.5. It is not tested for any version below that.

The most general noticeable change would be the path to the plugin is now fixed. Previously it was nested in another folder and I got several hate mails because of that. Since the path problem has been solved, the Automatic Plugin Upgrade should work in theory.

As promised, I have release updates to 12 of my plugins and added 2 new plugins. All of them are compatible with WordPress 2.3 but not all of them are backward compatible with WordPress 2.1 or 2.2.

The 2 new plugins are WP-DownloadManager and WP-PluginsUsed. As the name of the plugins suggest, WP-DownloadManager simply enhanced your WordPress by adding a simple download manager to it. WP-PluginsUsed will displays both active and inactive plugins that you are using in your WordPress blog.

I am proud to say that along side with the default rating styles, you can have the up/down ratings easily and on top of that you can have custom image for each individual rating. So what that means is that, if you want to have 5 different images for 5 different type of ratings instead of the same old 5 repetitive stars, now you can.

I have also make it compatible with WP-Cache, thanks to the code provided by Nir Aides. This time there is a huge modification to the core code and I need beta testers for this. If anyone of you guys is interested, drop me an email @ gamerz84 AT hotmail DOT com.

WP-PostRatings widget supports “Most Rated” and “Highest Rated” posts and/or pages. WP-PostViews widget supports “Most Viewed” post and/or pages.

This should make quite a lot of users happy because they always wanted this feature instead of manually inputting php codes into the widget.

I have also added in an option page for WP-PostViews under “WP-Admin -> Options -> Post Views” in version 1.20. So now user can choose to let WP-PostViews count views from everyone, guest only or registered users only from the options page rather than manually editing the php code.

The release date hopefully will be around October 2007.

The bug seems to go away if you are using WordPress 2.2. I presumed there is some changes to the add_post_meta() and update_post_meta() in WP 2.2. I have since fixed the bug and now it works perfectly on WP 2.1.x and WP 2.2.

If you guys have previously downloaded WP-PostRatings 1.11, kindly re-download it again. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

It is the ability to choose whether to show the loading image with text and the fading in and out of the poll/rating.

Some of you may not like the loading image with text, and now your wish came true, you can choose not to display it under the respective options menu.

For those CSS validating freaks, the opacity CSS value for wp-polls and wp-postratings will not pass CSS validation at W3. Now all you have to do is remove those lines in the respective css file and choose “No” for “Show Fading In And Fading Out Of Polls/Ratings”

One last thing before I end, as you all may know, if polls or ratings is embedded within the post, when viewing feed for the post, the post content might appear unsightly, so now let me gather your feedback to this issue with a poll.

After much research, I found out that Opera does not support alpha/opacity.
