The [Ugreen USB-A to USB-C Adapter](https://www.lazada.sg/products/i280431006-s439299919.html) retails on Lazada for **S$7.49**. It is a USB-A 3.0 male to USB-C 3.1 female adapter that supports QC3 charging (3A) and a maximum transfer rate of 5Gbps.

I bought it to convert a USB-C to USB-C cable to a USB-A to USB-C Cable.

A USB-C charger with a USB-C to USB-C cable usually delivers power via the USB Power Delivery protocol (USB PD). If the receiving device has a USB-C port, it doesn’t mean it supports USB PD, so if you power it via a USB-C charger, it will not work.

A good example of this is the [Aqara Camera Hub G3](https://lesterchan.net/blog/2023/05/29/aqara-camera-hub-g3-review/), where it has a USB-C port but it doesn’t work with a USB-C charger.

Based on [this Reddit thead](https://www.reddit.com/r/Aqara/comments/13gvshp/fp2_3rd_party_power_cables/), to support USB-C, Aqara needs to add a resistor to the Aqara Camera Hub G3, and they have to go through all the certification again.

So to power the Aqara Camera Hub G3 using a USB-C to USB-C cable, I would need to use this USB-A to USB-C adapter with a 56kΩ on the adapter itself.

Why use an adapter when you can use a USB-A to USB-C cable? The reason is that I intend to future-proof my cabling outside my house with just one USB-C to USB-C cable. In the future, when Aqara supports cameras that are powered by USB PD, I can remove the adapter and replace the charger, and it will just work without the need to rewire.
