Apple iPhone Lightning Dock (Gold)
The Apple iPhone Lightning Dock was released back in May 2015 and retails for S$58. it is made of plastic and only the color white is available.
For the launch of iPhone 6/6s Plus, there is a new variant of the Apple iPhone Lightning Dock that retails for S$68.
It costs S$10 more than the plastic variant because it is now made of aluminium. Instead of white, it now comes in four metallic finishes: Silver, Gold, Rose Gold and Space Grey.
Despite the high price of S$58/S$68, Lightning cable is not included with the dock.
As you can tell from the more generic product name, iPhone Lightning Dock, Apple makes sure it will fit most Lightning devices even with their cases on. They did it by removing the groove at the base and ensured that the base is flat and wide. To fit cases, the Lightning connector is now on a raised bump.
The previous dock from Apple spots the name, iPhone 5s dock, which will only fit iPhone 5/5s/5c without their cases.
The iPhone Lightning Dock weighs 80g and that makes it a stable base for all iPhones and iPad Minis. I will not recommend using it with iPad 3/4/Air because the Lightning connector is not designed to take the weight of it.
Speaking of the Lightning connector, it will probably be the only point of failure. However, it seems tightly glued to the base of the dock. So only time will tell whether it will stand the test of time.
