Funxim X8 – Qi Wireless Charging Pad For iPhone And Apple Watch
Funxim X8 is a 10W Qi wireless charging pad that allows your iPhone or Android phone together with your Apple Watch.
Funxim X8 started out on Kickstarter on November 2017 where it raised a total of US$448,097 out of their initial goal of US$10,000 from 10,983 backers. They started shipping to their backers from January 2018.
If you miss the project on Kickstarter, you can order the Funxim X8 from Lulu Look.
Lulu Look is selling it for US$22.99 (S$32), and economy shipping to Singapore is free. It takes about two to three weeks to reach you. If you need it faster, you can upgrade to standard shipping which is an additional US$3.99 (S$6).
Funxim X8 uses a Micro USB connection and comes with a fast charging AC adapter. It takes in 5V/2A or 9V/1.67A and outputs 5V/1.5A or 9V/1.1A.
It is made of Polycarbonate/Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene Alloy or PC/ABS in short.
Regarding measurements and weight, it measures 174 x 88 x 10 (mm) and weighs 90 g.
Do note that Funxim X8 doesn’t charge your iPhone or Apple Watch simultaneously. It just charges your iPhone wirelessly together with your Apple Watch.
For it to charge your Apple Watch, you will need to get the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable in 0.3 m or 1 m and attach it to Funxim X8. Remember to get the USB-A version of the cable and not the USB-C version which Apple released two weeks ago.
The only downside of charging your Apple Watch with the Funxim X8 is that your Apple Watch needs to be using an open-end watch strap like the Sports Band or Modern Buckle.
If you are using a closed loop watch strap like the Milanese Loop or Link Bracelet, you need to remove one side of the watch strap before you can charge it. This can be very troublesome.
It took me at least ten tries to get my 1 m Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Cable to fit in just right. I would recommend getting the 0.3 m instead so you have a shorter wire to coil.
If you read the comments on Funxim X8’s Kickstarter project, quite a few people said it would stop working after a few months. If it does for me, I will update this post again!
