Some of you might already know, WhatsApp has been available on Windows MarketPlace For Mobile since last Saturday, but unfortunately, it is only available for Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) users. Most of us, the “general public” are still on Windows Phone 7.0 and are eagerly waiting to upgrade to Windows Phone 7.5 which I think will be released this week if not the latest next week.
Windows Phone “Mango” aka Windows Phone 7.5 has been Released to Manufacturing (RTM) which means we are going to get it soon (I am guessing September/October 2011)! The RTM build of Mango is 7720
I wanted to drop into the Windows Phone Blog briefly to update you on an important milestone. Earlier this morning, the Windows Phone development team officially signed off on the release to manufacturing (RTM) build of âMangoâ â the latest version of the Windows Phone operating system. This marks the point in the development process where we hand code to our handset and mobile operator partners to optimize Mango for their specific phone and network configurations. Here on the Windows Phone team, we now turn to preparing for the update process. The Mango update for current Windows Phone handsets will be ready this fall, and of course will come pre-installed on new Windows Phones.
“Seven months ago we started our mission to make smartphones smarter and easier for people to do more,” said Andy Lees, president of the Mobile Communications Business at Microsoft. “With âMango,â Windows Phone takes a major step forward in redefining how people communicate and use apps and the Internet, giving you better results with less effort.”
