I am pretty sure you guys have heard of Realtek. The Taiwan’s semiconductor corporation that makes lots of stuff from audio chips to wi-fi chips. Founded in 1987, now they are the 6th largest fabless semiconductor in Asia and 16th largest in the world! Their revenue in 2013 is almost US$1 billion!

Realtek has tied up with Singapore Economic Development Board to setup it’s regional headquaters and R&D center in Singapore. Realtek joins other fabless semiconductor companies such as Qualcomm, Broadcom and MediaTek who have already established a significant presence in Singapore.

Over the next 5 years, Realtek Singapore will invest S$180 million to establish a 25-man team in the regional HQ and 50-man team R&D. The R&D center here will developed advanced network processors that will be used in networking equipment such as Wi-Fi routers. They will also develop solutions for Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications such as smart home and smart wearable devices.
