Western Digital 2TB Gaming Drive For PS4
WD 2TB Gaming Drive Works with PlayStation 4 Portable External Hard Drive was on sale during Black Friday 2019 on Amazon.com.
It was retailing for US$59.99 (S$82), and shipping to Singapore is an additional US$5.60 (S$8).
I am not sure of the official retail price in Singapore. Tech@Asia on Lazada is selling it for S$139.
Since it ships directly to Singapore, I tried my luck to see whether Amazon.sg has the same offer, and to my surprise it does. It retails for S$87.82, and shipping is free to Singapore as the order is above S$60, and I am an Amazon Singapore Prime member.
This portable hard drive is specifically designed to match the black design of your PS4. There is another WD portable hard drive, WD Gaming Drive Accelerated for Xbox One, that is in white to match the Xbox One.
It comes in 2TB or 4TB and is compatible with both PS4 and PS4 Pro as long as the firmware is 4.50 and above. You need to reformat the drive via the console first before using it to store your games.
Although the name of the product is WD Gaming Drive Works With PlayStation 4, Sony does not endorse or authorize this product.
I can’t seem to find what is the difference between this gaming portable hard drive and a regular portable hard drive. I only saw two answers under the “Customer questions & answers” on Amazon.
Pretty much this drive lacks the traditional backup software that usually comes with external hard drives. And they made some small performance tweaks to it.
One thing you might not notice is that that the drive inside is not a standard SATA drive. It has a built-in USB interface, so you couldn’t remove the drive out of its case and use it on a computer/laptop.
