iblazr – LED Flash For Smartphones
iblazr is a LED flash that can be attached to the 3.5mm audio jack of any devices, not just smartphones. It is extremely compact and lightweight, measuring 27 x 32 x 9 (mm) and weights only 10g.
I bought the iblazr in Hong Kong from Life Digital located inside ifc mall for HK$388 (S$67).
You can also get it from iblazr’s online shop for US$44.99 (S$60), excluding shipping. I have not seen it selling in Singapore yet. If I do, I will update this post again.
iblazr was born out of a Kickstarter Project back in September 2013. It raises a total of US$156,789 out of their initial goal of only US$58,000.
There are 4 LED lights on the iblazr which gives you a 70° beam and 5600K color temperature. It also has a Coloring Rendering Index (CRI) of about 80.
It has a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery of 110 mAh which gives you up to 3 hours of light depending on which power mode you are on.
Pressing the only button of the iblazr allows you to toggle the power mode:
- 1st power mode: 16 Lux at 1m (similar to smartphone flashlight), last for 3 hours on a single charge
- 2nd power mode: 60 Lux at 1m, last for 50 minutes on a single charge
- 3rd power mode: 120 Lux at 1m, last for 25 minutes on a single charge
- Off
In order to use the iblazr as a flash for your device, you will need to use the companion app (iOS | Android | Windows Phone). For the flash mode, the brightness is 270 Lux at 1m and on a single charge, it can last about 500 flashes.
The default package comes silicon diffuser, carrying bag, USB 3.5mm jack charger and the cold shoe mount so that you can use it with your DSLRs and compact cameras.
