I hope you are doing your backup daily. For me, I am doing two backups for my iMac at home on a daily basis. One using Time Machine with Western Digital My Book Thunderbolt Duo and the other is using Acronis True Image.
Here goes my story: Couple of years back, I have been relying on an old external hdd (brand shall not be revealed) to backup my mac for a couple of years. Suddenly one day of attempting to backup via time machine, the hdd cannot be recognised by my mac, i was shocked and horrified! All 1TB of data cannot be retrieved nor read! I asked around how much will data recovery costs and I have to say: ITS EXPENSIVE. Fast forward today, i rely on NAS to do my synching backups and so far (touch wood); my data are all safe. I have never tried cloud storage (AWS S3/Box.net/Dropbox) as I have huge data files and the upload will take days to do so..
Hello All,
my story is an expensive experience that I have with my WD essential Hdd. I decided to backup all my pictures and documents on to the harddisk. Little did I know the harddisk fail on me. It took super long to load and the prompt for ” please format harddisk” always appear. Send it down to sim lim and asked around, hoping that a data retrieval at a cheap rate is possible, praying that its just normal software problem, but its not. its the hardware failure and they are unable to retrieve my data!
Decided to google online for more professional help, and I chance upon Japan data technology. They are very confident on retrieving my data and I decided to go ahead with their diagnostic. Within an hour or so, they confirm with me that its a hardware failure, but they are confident of repairing and retrieving my data. I decided that the data is too important and I went ahead with it, this experience cost me a whopping $1.3k.
A precious lesson learn: Don’t buy those harddisk that are on cheap sale! Mechanical harddisk has a lifespan of 3to 5 years, but you must calculate the time it is in the shop and the time it is set on the shelf before it was put on sale!
so backup your harddisk now! you may not know when it will fail on you
recently having a shock of my life with my seagate 2.5 TB HDD went on SMART alert… had to rush to Sim Lim Square to grab one replacement for it….. sadly when i restarted my pc… the HDD just display space without files in it….thinking it was file sector issue.. trying to revive it with different software didnt help… made me realise how voilatile hdd are. there goes some of my photo memories that were stuck in the drive.
How I lost my data before: hard disk crashed and I had no RAID setup or backups. SSD crashed and I didn’t backup *all* my data in time! And I DD’ed a blank disk onto one with data once…
I once had a hard disk which failed and i try many ways to make it work. There was a ticking sound for the disk. I tried to position the disk in different ways, and finally after hours of trying , i found a position where i can finally boot. lol then faster get all my data.
4 years ago I used a Compaq laptop and do random manual backup (read: once in 1-3 weeks), one day the harddisk failure, although still under warranty and HP change a new harddrive, but all data from last backup gone, it’s a pain.
I have a Seagate external hard disk. It is not recognized anywhere.
Not in connected devices nor in disk management or anywhere. Before that
I could not format it. I need help. I tried it on other 3 laptops but
it was same problem. Please help me, it’s urgent . It have very
important data on it. =>Acronis True Image 2015 is the best choice.
Here goes my story: I have a problem with my computer: I’m using Windows 7 x64, and when I try to access the Downloads folder, it takes a long time. After waiting for half a minute or more, I can open it, see the contents, copy and move files, etc.
And now, when I open Firefox and I click on the new tab button, it also freezes for a couple of minutes.
My hard drive just stopped working. It never made any odd sounds like screeching, popping, or clicking, and it didn’t crash.
One day my hard drive failure and all data was disappeared.
I have a WD 500GB external HD that stopped working just
2-3 months after I started using it. And it filled to the brim, too. I
tried taking it to the local IT store to recover the data, but no luck.
My laptop recently crashed. I rebooted it and it worked fine for
a bit. But now when I turn it, it is so slow to load up windows. When I
sign on to my user account, it takes around 10 minutes to fully load my
desktop.
The giveaway has ended and the results has been posted in https://lesterchan.net/blog/2015/04/08/winners-of-acronis-true-image-2015-giveaway/
