On 29th March 2016, SmartThings was having a 20% discount off most of their products as part of their Spring sale.
They are having the sale once again till 4th June 2016 as part of Memorial Day remembrance.
The offer is valid on both SmartThings Online Store as well as Amazon.
I bought my items from Amazon because they qualify for the free AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping program.
I split my shipment into two because any amount more than S$400 (including shipping) will get a 7% Goods and Services Tax (GST) in Singapore.
In my first shipment, I just bought the SmartThings Home Monitoring Kit (Amazon) for US$199 (S$270).
The kit includes:
- SmartThings Hub (Amazon)
- SmartThings Outlet (Amazon)
- 2x SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor (Amazon)
- SmartThings Motion Sensor (Amazon)
In my second shipment, I bought two SmartThings Arrival Sensor (Amazon) at US$23.99 (S$33) each and three SmartThings Multipurpose Sensor at US$31.99 (S$43.37) each. This totals to US$143.95 (S$196).
In total, my initial SmartThings project for my new home cost: US$199 + US$143.95 = US$342.95 (S$466).
I am going to place the Multipurpose Sensors at my main door and at all the windows. This should let me know if I forgot to close them or if there is any break-in.

Hello Lester, its me again – Gary.
I am going to purchase the Samsung ST as well, but I couldn’t see there is $199 for the starter kit, you really got the wonderful price during their promotion. Anyway, the ST hub is support in Singapore for 240v I assume? Did you try any siren so far? I have look at the Aeotec which look like not bad. Hope to you can share more, Cheers.
It is 110v-240v. BUT it is using Z-Wave US frequency and it will not be compatible with any Z-Wave devices bought officially in SG as SG follows EU frequency.
The SmartThings has no in-built siren, you need to buy one to link it up.
Hi Lester, which devices were you able to control with the hub then? I’m looking at getting Smartthings but worried about the compatibility issues. Though I know that Zigbee uses only one frequency, so that should make things a bit easier. Do you use any zigbee devices now?
It depends on where your z-wave devices are from. It is region specific. I have switch to Fibaro https://lesterchan.net/blog/2016/06/21/the-start-of-my-smart-home-journey/
