The iPhone 5 will be launching on 21st September 2012 at 8am at Marina Bay Sands, Exhibition Hall D, Basement 2.
You may or may not know, there are 3 LTE models to the iPhone 5 as listed below:
- GSM model A1428: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 4 and 17)
- CDMA model A1429: CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz); UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25)
- GSM model A1429: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5)
In Singapore, we are getting the GSM model A1429 because we are on LTE Band 3 (1,800 MHz). SingTel and M1 supports LTE Band 7 (2,600 MHz) as well but not StarHub.
The prices of iPhone 5 with 2-years contact, in general, are at least S$20 cheaper than iPhone 4S last year.

It looks like ST want to charge double ($10/GB vs $5/GB) for LTE. My question then is, the free bundled data (eg, 2GB in the case of iFlexi Lite) is over 3G or LTE, or both?
It is over both =)
If “iOne/iTwo + BBoM”, 4G is more grey: says there’s BBoM Prime @ $14.90/mth for 2GB whereas says only 1 BBoM plan $59.90/mth 10GB.
BBoM 4G excess data: $5.35/GB. doesn’t say it’ll double to $10/GB in 2013. Question #8 in does.
1. There are multiple BBOm plans. The second link “Prestige 75” is a mobile dongle, not tied to your mobile phones. There are 2 types of BBOM, 1 as a VAS to your mobile phone and 1 as a standalone for laptop to be used with a USB Dongle.
2, Good point, I am guessing they miss out or the last minute change it. I am guessing they just miss it out.
I called 1688 and the cso says ip5 only can be bought using iflexi plans. Any1 can confirm?
Nope, that is not true, I recontracted using my grandfather line on Classic for the iPhone 5.
Hi I just went to sign up using ione plus, the singtel cso at west mall forced me to sign up for 24mth BBOM $9.90 before I can purchase IP5. says is an SOP
I am not too sure about that, but when I recontract my Classic line, I was not “forced” to sign any BBOM plans. You should call 1688 and check, call 2-3 times to see if you get the same answer
i just got my iphone 5 with an iflexi plan from Singtel under contract. Is my iphone 5 locked to singtel network only or can I use other network’s sim card as well? thanks!
Nope, phones sold it Singapore are not locked in any manner because it is against the law to lock a phone to a provider.
Nice to know that! Thanks so much for ur quick reply!
Thanks for valuable info. My contract is iTwo Value with BBoM Premium. Can I change my BBoM plan to lower plan after a while I upgrade to iP5? Or should I change the plan at the same time of the upgrade?
You can change your BBOM plan anytime as there are 2 separate entity as long as the contract period is over. Eg: iTwo value typical contract length is 2 years, for BBOM you can choose 3 months or 1 year. So once your BBOM contract is up, you can change it.
Hi Lester Chan .. Yesterday I got the iPhone 5 16 GB from Singtel Flexi Plan and I see that in Settings>General>About>Carrier I see “Singtel 1.0” as Carrier ! does it mean is it locked ? Nano sim card is not yet available in my country;hence I am unable to try out with my country specific carrier
in Singapore, all phones sold regardless of iPhone or not are not locked.
Thank you i am able to use the phone. Thanks a lot for your updates 🙂
Finally some relevant information! You mentioned it’s better not to get a Voice Only plan + BBoM. Are the only concerns the price and data cap? Cos my classic line is quite cheap after so many years. What about the data usage, are there any problems using an iPhone with Classic+BBoM?
Nope there will not be a problem with Classic BBoM, but it might be more expensive. If your classic line is SGD$9.90, BBOM (1GB) is SGD$9.90, you will pay about SGD$20 bucks which is still slightly cheaper than the iFlexi but 1GB is too little for most people.
Thanks for the reply! I do agree that 1GB is too little. My classic line isn’t as cheap as $9.90, but even with 2GB it is still cheaper then iFlexi since my current Classic line already comes with free caller-id.
There is no 2GB, the next tier is 4GB at SGD$14.90 which is $5 more ex (same price as caller id)
The deal just got worse. $14.90 doesn’t even get me 4GB anymore. Singtel website listed $14.90 for 2GB, and $29.90 for 6GB.
Yea i just saw, looks like they changed, i have also updated the post. 2GB might be enough, for me 3GB would be just nice.
excess 1GB will be $5, so you might be paying about $19.90 for 3GB
Hi buddy I bought iflexi plus at 99.90 a month and 4GB with iPhone 5 32gb . Just 4 days use and my data received is 5 gb! Does that mean I overshot and had to pay for the other excess gb? How do I check my usage under sent or received? I don’t use FaceTime at all and mostly downloading songs from iTunes about 80 songs now and youtubes 40 minutes a day. Kinda scared bols! :/ please advice
Yeap, most likely you exceeded by 1GB which cost about SGD$5. As a rule of thumb, do not use 3G to stream video or download stuff since the data limit has been cut. You can check your data usage here
That means Singapore 3G unlimited is now gone? If I know I would have not taken the 4GB. Anyways to upgrade to 6 or 12GB with my currently iflexi plus? I thought its unlimited same monthly and similar Iphone ( used to be 4) sigh . Thanks bro
In Singapore, it has never been unlimited, it is 12GB before the reduction. I am not sure if you can upgrade it to 12GB, I don’t think you can. Having said that, the excess of SGD$5/GB sounds reasonable. I hardly ever pass 2GB every month as I don’t watch video or download apps/music/video on the go
