JBL Flip 3 Portable Speaker

JBL Flip 3 Portable Speaker is a portable splashproof Bluetooth 4.1 Speaker that is retailing for S$179 in Singapore.

The JBL Flip 3 is pretty much an all-purpose speaker because it is made of durable and splashproof fabric material with rugged rubber.

Because it is splashproof, it can withstand rainwater and water spills. It can even be washed using a running tap as long as you do not submerge it into the water.

It measures 64mm x 64mm x 169mm, weighs 450g, and comes in eight different colors but only seven will be available in Singapore: Black, Grey, Blue, Red, Orange, Teal, and Pink. Yellow will not be available in Singapore.

It has a 3,000mAh rechargeable Li-ion built-in battery that gives you about 10 hours of music playback.

You can connect up to three devices to the speaker. If there are multiple JBL Flip 3 or any JBL Connect-enabled speakers in the room, you can wirelessly link them together for a better listening experience.

You can even use the JBL Flip 3 to answer calls because it comes with a built-in noise and echoes canceling speakerphone.

I chose the Orange JBL Flip 3 and the included MicroUSB cable comes colored match in Orange as well.

If you look closely at the USB end of the cable, you will notice that it is reversible which means you can plug either way into a USB charger port and it will work.

The buttons are pretty self-explanatory except for the call button. When I first saw the JBL Flip 3, I was looking for the play/pause button but I couldn’t find it.

After reading the quick setup guide, I realized that the call button is the play/pause button as well.

Similar to iOS remote control, pressing the “call/play/pause” button twice will allow you to skip to the next song. Unfortunately, pressing it three times doesn’t allow you to go back to the previous song.

There are two ports in the JBL Flip 3, one Micro USB port for charging the speaker and the other is a 3.5mm auxiliary port.

Compared with NudeAudio
I have two other all-purpose portable speakers which are the NudeAudio Move S and NudeAudio Move M.

The JBL Flip 3 Portable Speaker might be larger than the NudeAudio speakers, but it produces sharper audio and better bass due to its Bass Radiator at the side of the speakers. I still find the mid-bass of the JBL Flip 3 slightly lacking.
