Asus RT-BE58 Go Travel Router Review
I'd been eyeing a travel router, GL.iNet Beryl 7 or UniFi's UTR, when Asus offered the RT-BE58 Go Wi-Fi 7 to review. RRP S$170, S$145 on Shopee sale days. Hotel Wi-Fi once, WireGuard tunnelling everything home.

The Linksys Atlas is a new Wi-Fi mesh series following Velop, led by the Atlas Pro 6. This dual-band Wi-Fi 6 router shares Velop's intelligent mesh tech, so you can mix nodes between the two.
A key gripe with the Linksys Velop (Tri-Band) was its price, S$349 to S$749 across packs. The Linksys Velop (Dual-Band), launched 28th July 2018, solves that by being roughly half the price, making mesh Wi-Fi far more wallet-friendly.
Three years after the EA8500, Linksys's first MU-MIMO router, comes the EA8100 Max-Stream AC2600, the brand's first DFS (Dynamic Frequency Selection) router. DFS is its main draw, opening up extra Wi-Fi channels.
Google Wifi launched in Singapore on 31st August 2017 via a StarHub partnership, the first in Southeast Asia. You can get a three-pack bundle at S$15 a month over 24 months on selected StarHub plans, with no upfront cost.
The Aztech AIR-706P is Aztech's first mesh router, launched July 2017 at S$269. This budget router extends range by adding a second AIR-706P rather than an extender, though it's not a true mesh.
The Synology Router RT2600ac launched in Singapore on 12th January 2017 at S$365, Synology's second router after the RT1900ac. It upgrades to a 1.7GHz dual-core CPU, 512MB RAM, and 4x4 802.11ac wave 2 Wi-Fi with MU-MIMO and beamforming.
eero is a home Wi-Fi system built on a wireless mesh network. It isn't cheap: a single unit costs US$199, a 2-pack US$349, and a 3-pack US$499, but it promises uninterrupted whole-home coverage.
The Synology Router RT1900ac is Synology's first router, aimed at the mid-range market at roughly S$234. It went on sale in Singapore on 6th October 2015. For the unaware, this brings Synology's polished software experience to home networking.
The ASUS RT-AC88U launched at SITEX 2015, Singapore's last major IT event of the year, held at Singapore Expo from 26th to 29th November. The much-awaited router retails for S$429, packing eight Gigabit LAN ports and strong wireless performance.
The Linksys EA8500 Max-Stream AC2600 MU-MIMO Gigabit Router launched on 4th August 2015, exclusively at Challenger before reaching most electronics stores, at S$399. Despite the lower model number, it isn't really a step down from the EA9200.
The Linksys E8350 AC2400 Dual-Band Gigabit Wi-Fi Router launched on 7th November 2014 at a recommended S$399, exclusive to Challenger and online. It's the second Linksys router priced at S$399 after the WRT1900AC, and I think that's too high.
The Asus RT-AC87U is the world's first AC2400-class dual-band 802.11ac wireless router with a four-by-four antenna configuration, and the first to use multi-user MIMO. It delivers 1.7334Gbit/s on 5GHz and 600Mbit/s on 2.4GHz, for a combined 2.334Gbit/s.
The Linksys WRT1900AC came in the biggest router box I've ever received. Inside, everything sits in protective foam rather than cardboard, with a sponge fixed to the lid to cushion the router. It retails for S$399.
The D-Link DIR-868L Wireless AC 1750 Dual-Band Gigabit Router retails for S$319, or S$279 at Challenger's member price, steep for a router. Still, it's cheaper than the Cisco Linksys EA6500 was at launch. This draft 802.11ac router supports simultaneous dual-band.
Western Digital is entering the router market with three routers and two more featuring built-in storage. The range runs from the My Net N600 at S$99 up to the N900 Central 2TB at S$399. Here I review the N900.
The Cisco Linksys EA6500 succeeds the EA4500 and is now in stores for S$349. It uses the new 802.11ac wireless technology, still under development, to deliver near-gigabit wireless speeds. Most AC routers currently reach a theoretical maximum of 1.3Gbps.
Cisco launched the Linksys EA4500 router in June 2012, retailing for S$299. It introduces Cisco Connect Cloud, letting you connect, control, and interact with your router and its devices from anywhere, as long as you're online.
