My new iPad Pro 11-inch (M4) only supports the Apple Pencil Pro, so my old Pencil 2 won't work. Despite just four real differences between them, Apple gives no reason it couldn't support the older pencil, conveniently pushing the upgrade.
After seven years with my iPad Pro 10.5-inch, I upgraded to the iPad Pro 11-inch M4. My brother, a frequent flyer, bought it for me at Changi Airport's iStudio to save the 9% GST, with a guide to terminal prices.
I bought the 3rd-gen iPad Pro 12.9-inch (Space Grey 256GB, Wi-Fi + Cellular) to test it as a travel laptop replacement, home entertainment device, and weekend blogging machine. I added an Apple Pencil (2nd Generation) for drawing too.
The Apple Pencil (2nd Generation) retails for S$189 in Singapore, or S$176.64 tax-free at the airport once you strip out the 7% GST. It's S$51 dearer than the first-generation Pencil, but pairs only with the latest iPad Pro.
The iPad Pro 10.5-inch is my fourth iPad, after the original (2010), iPad 2, and iPad Air. Nearly four years on, my Air feels sluggish, and its 16GB was always too little, prompting this upgrade.
With Li Xiang drawing constantly in FiftyThree's Paper app to design our new house, I picked up the FiftyThree Pencil stylus. Launched in November 2013, the Pencil is built to pair with Paper, working far better than an ordinary stylus.
The Apple iPad Pro, a 12.9-inch iPad, is now available for pre-order in Singapore and 39 other countries, with delivery from 13th November 2015. It comes in silver, gold, and space grey, in 32GB and 128GB.
I love Just Mobile's stands. After picking up the HeadStand in Bangkok, I grabbed the UpStand the moment I saw it in Hong Kong. This solid aluminium stand fits every iPad, even the Mini, in portrait and landscape mode.
Parallels Access for iPad is a remote desktop app that lets you run any Mac or PC application on your iPad, designed to make those apps feel native. A 12-month subscription costs US$49.99 through an in-app purchase.
Adobe Voice is Adobe's latest iPad app, letting you create and share animated video stories right from the iPad. It's free on the iOS App Store and requires an iPad 2 or newer running iOS 7.
After roughly four years in the making, Microsoft Office for iPad is finally here, and it's free for viewing Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. To edit, you'll need an Office 365 subscription, with Home Premium at S$138 a year.
I received the Crumpler Bell - Action iPad Pouch (S$95) as a 30th birthday present from my brother Leroy and his fiancee Huimin. Part of the Crumpler Bell range launched in Singapore in March 2014, it's heavier than the Milonas.
Li Xiang gave me the Crumpler Bag - Milonas (S$45) for Valentine's Day. I love bags, so a Crumpler or Timbuk2 never disappoints. The Milonas fits any generation of iPad in its main slot, plus a Bluetooth keyboard.
Both my iPads were showing their age, lagging at everything, so it was time to upgrade. I considered the iPad Mini Retina but chose the iPad Air for its bigger screen, easier for Li Xiang's sketching.
Thanks to screenprotector.sg for the complimentary 3M Easy-On Privacy Filter for iPad. Made in the USA, this custom-fit filter for the iPad 2 and 3rd/4th generation keeps on-screen information private while maintaining high image clarity and protecting the LCD.
I was an early backer of Flybridge, pledging on 29th December 2012. It funded on 1st February 2013, raising US$19,365 against a US$15,000 goal. As an early backer, I got each for US$10, so I bought two, plus US$10 shipping.
My brother gave me the Timbuk2 Freestyle Messenger Bag for iPad, then around US$89. It's now on offer at timbuk2.com for US$54. Despite being an iPad bag, its main compartment fits a 13-inch MacBook Air.
iOS 6.0 is out, and here I've gathered the direct download links from Apple itself for a range of iDevices, including the iPhone 4S, 4, and 3GS, the iPod Touch 5G and 4G, and the iPad 3 and iPad 2.
The LunaTik Touch Pen was the 6th project I backed on Kickstarter, pledging on 14th December 2011. It funded on 10th February 2012, raising US$309,183 against a US$75,000 goal. After some delays, I finally received it on 10th July.
Google Chrome has finally arrived on iOS as a universal app. I've tried it on both my iPhone 4S and iPad 2, and it works beautifully, replacing Safari on my devices. Sync of bookmarks, history, tabs, and preferences works perfectly.
I bought the Wacom Bamboo Stylus from The Software Boutique for S$42, choosing Black from six colours. Of the three styluses Li Xiang owns, the Sensu Artist Brush, Power Support Smart Pen, and Wacom Bamboo, she preferred the Bamboo.
CableKeeps was the 4th Kickstarter project I backed, on 11th August 2011. It funded on 9th September, raising US$37,498 against a US$35,000 goal. My US$28 pledge, plus US$10 shipping, got me any two units from Nibbles, Goldie, or Gulp.
