It's human nature to blame others rather than investigate the real problem. Johor's Chief Minister has cited land reclamation by neighbouring Singapore as a cause of the recent massive flooding, in which 17 people died and 100,000 were evacuated.
As you know, Thailand's relationship with Singapore has hit an all-time low, especially over the Shin Corp affair, Thaksin's visit and Thailand's 1-2 football loss yesterday. Making matters worse, Mahathir has now added fuel to the already burning fire.
A quick snapshot of my site's standings: ranked 21,914 on Alexa, 6,203 on Technorati, with a Google PageRank of 5 for lesterchan.net and 6 for my PHP programming portfolio page. Steady numbers I'm quite pleased with for now.
These past few days, Singapore's weather has been wonderfully cool and windy, and I simply love it. I barely feel the usual heat at all, a rare and welcome respite from our typically humid, sweltering tropical climate.
I just realised I can get Microsoft Vista free from my school, and I'm downloading it now. A shame it comes on five CDs rather than one DVD. Still deciding whether to install it on my desktop or laptop.
Microsoft Windows Vista should be in retail stores today, and Microsoft has revamped its Vista homepage. I tried Vista and it lags my four-year-old Pentium 4 3.2GHz with ATI X800 graphics, so I'll only get it when I upgrade.
Check out these listings of the worst domain names ever registered: Top 10 Worst Domain Names, plus 20 More Unfortunate Domain Names. Some are unintentionally hilarious once you read the run-together words the wrong way. Worth a good laugh.
Alongside today's release of WordPress 2.1, I've updated the following plugins for it. Most work only on WordPress 2.1 and will break on 2.0.x; if you still need a 2.0.x version for any reason, the download link is included below.
So far I'm very satisfied with Dreamhost's customer support. I filed three support tickets this week, with the fastest reply within 15 minutes and the slowest within 24 hours. The site went down this evening too.
If you can see this announcement, the site has successfully moved to its new host, Dreamhost. I signed a two-year contract for US$100.80, so hopefully they don't let me down. Load time is noticeably slower for me now.
After over a month of holidays, semester 2 of academic year 2006/2007 finally started today. I must work extra hard to pull my crappy 3.18 GPA up to maybe 3.2 or 3.3, and hopefully above 3.5 before I graduate.
I posted my dream PC specs back in August 2006, and some now look unrealistic, so I've been researching. The Intel Core 2 Quad heading mainstream this year is codenamed Kentsfield, essentially two dual-core dies on one package.
These are the modules I'm taking in my first year, second semester: Principles of Economics, Financial Accounting, Computing and Society, Fundamentals of Information Systems, and Enterprise Systems Development. A solid, varied load to push through the term.
I went to Sim Lim Square today to buy my mom's accounting server. As always, I bought from Fuwell, whose service from Kelvin Siah I love. It's built around an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600.
I've released updates to four of my WordPress plugins: WP-Polls 2.13, WP-PostRatings 1.05, WP-Stats 2.06 and WP-UserOnline 2.06. All four are now internationalised, so you can easily localise them by translating the included .po file into your own language.
Happy New Year 2007 to all my visitors out there! Wishing you health, happiness and success in the year ahead, and thank you for continuing to read and support this little blog of mine. Here's to a great year!
As we know, Vista was originally scheduled for 2003 but slipped over five years for various reasons. Vista is a much-improved OS, but the long delay has cost Microsoft, which is already looking ahead to Fiji and Vienna.
We had a DMMT gathering yesterday at Marina's Sakae Sushi, organised by Charlene. Among those who turned up were Charlene, Stacey, Zhi Wei, Laily, Suqin, Li Xiang and me. By chance we also spotted Zhi Fan and his girlfriend.
My 2006/2007 Semester 1 results: B+ in Data Structures and Algorithms, B in Computer Organisation, D+ in Discrete Structures, B- in English for Academic Purposes and B in Introductory Mathematics. My CAP is 3.18. Disappointed CS1102 only got a B+.
Wishing all visitors to my site a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I hope you got what you wanted; what I want isn't available yet, maybe by Christmas 2008. Tonight I'm having steamboat with family.
Li Xiang bought a new computer today from Fuwell in Sim Lim Square. The specs include an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, an MSI P965 Neo-F board, 1GB of Twinmos DDR2 and a PowerColor X1950 Pro 512MB.
