Posted my dream PC specifications a while back in August 2006, and some of the specs seems a little bit unrealistic.

Have been doing some research recently. The Intel Core 2 Quad which will goes into main stream sometime this years is called Kentsfield (Core 2 Quad). According to Wikipedia, the 2 main models are Q6600 (2.4GHz) and Q6400 (2.13GHz). Kentsfield is not really a true quad core processor, it is just basically two separate Conroe (Core 2 Duo) cores in one socket, and there will be a bottleneck in terms of bandwidth.

On the other hand Yorkfield (the successor to Core 2 Quad) is a true Quad Core processor and it will support DDR3 memory (1333 MHz DDR) and PCI Express 2.0. According to VR-Zone. the extreme version of have a clock speed of 3.46GHz-3.74GHz.

Here is the more realistic specifications of my dream PC in 2008.

» Intel Yorkfield (3.2GHz)
» PC10600 DDR3 1333 (2 x 1GB)
» 1TB SATA III HDD (2 x 500GB)
» ATI/NVIDIA Graphics Card With 1GB Memory Supporting PCI Express 2

I don’t think I need a dedicated sound card anyway, the integrated sound chip by RealTek should work just fine. And I think getting a single good graphics card is better than getting 2 average graphics card. The future of ATI CrossFire and Nvidia SLi doesn’t look that good.
