Akko Cherry Profile Carbon Retro Keycap Set
Bought the Akko Cherry Profile Carbon Retro Keycap Set from Shopee for S$58. It is probably the cheapest Akko Keycap set I could find.
These are double-shot PBT cherry profile keycaps. On the other hand, the Keychron Q1 comes with double-shot ABS OEM profile keycaps.
From Switch & Click: ABS vs PBT Keycaps: What’s the Difference?:
ABS keycaps are the cheapest and most common plastic used for keycaps. PBT plastic is less common but is usually higher quality than ABS. ABS keycaps feel smooth and develop a greasy shine over time, while PBT keycaps feel textured and durable.
The only difference I can immediately tell is PBT feels more textured than ABS.
For the difference between cherry profile and own profile keycaps, from Switch & Click: Cherry vs. OEM: Which Keycap Profile is Better?:
Cherry and OEM profile keycaps are very similar in design and sculpt. However, Cherry profile keycaps are slightly shorter and are harder to come by when searching for custom keycaps. OEM profile keycaps are usually on many prebuilt mechanical keyboards and are probably what most people have typed on before.
Again, the immediate difference I can tell is that the cherry profile is shorter than the OEM profile.
Coming from a newbie, I don’t know what I like yet. So, I don’t think one is superior to the other, and I don’t feel much difference between them.
