At CES 2016, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced the service's launch in almost every country except China. A subscriber since April 2015 via VPN, I'd long awaited this, since VPN access was slower, more cumbersome, and required blocking Google DNS.
Netflix is coming to Singapore in early 2016, alongside South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Here's hoping the local catalogue of movies and TV series is a good one. Netflix is the American on-demand streaming service expanding rapidly worldwide.
Following my earlier post on watching Netflix in Singapore via UnoTelly SmartDNS, today I feature an alternative, Unblock-Us. Founded in Toronto in 2010, Unblock-Us was the first company to offer a DNS-based SmartDNS solution for accessing content unavailable locally.
Thanks to Bates CHI and Disney Studios Singapore for inviting me to the Big Hero 6 media screening at Filmgrande, Bugis+. The 105-minute film, from the team behind Frozen and Wreck-It Ralph, officially hits Singapore cinemas on 13th November 2014.
There are two ways to watch Netflix in Singapore: a VPN or a DNS. I prefer the DNS method, simply pointing your router's DNS to UnoTelly's SmartDNS. Once configured, everyone connected to the router can access Netflix on their devices.
Thanks to TCL for sponsoring me tickets to the Southeast Asia premiere of X-Men: Days of Future Past. The premiere was held on 14th May 2014 at Shaw House, with the film opening in Singapore on 22nd May.
Muppets: Most Wanted is the sequel to 2011's The Muppets. It opened in the US on 21st March 2014 and reaches Singapore on 24th April. Running 107 minutes, it features the voices of Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, and Tina Fey.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the third Phase Two film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. It precedes Guardians of the Galaxy on 1st August 2014 and stars Chris Evans.
I caught Need for Speed before it officially opens in Singapore on 13th March 2014, distributed locally by Buena Vista International. An adaptation of Electronic Arts' racing game, it stars Aaron Paul, the two-time Emmy winner from Breaking Bad.
The first official trailer for Marvel's The Avengers is finally out, ahead of the film's release on 4th May 2012. Directed by Joss Whedon, it stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson.
I was invited to Universal Channel's screening of The Event. I'd seen it mentioned on HardwareZone forums but had totally forgotten about it. It's an American political thriller and science-fiction series created by Nick Wauters for NBC, stylised THE EVENT.
The Social Network is a movie about how Mark Zuckerberg started Facebook in his Harvard dorm. I doubt some parts, like Mark owning 51% when he holds 24%, but others ring true, such as Napster co-founder Sean Parker's involvement.
HP hosted the gala premiere of Sex and the City 2 at Golden Village VivoCity, and we were honoured to be invited. I'm a huge fan from the TV series days, and glad the sequel didn't take long.
Thanks to Hwee Tong and Sharon for the gala invite to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time at Cineleisure! It opens islandwide this Thursday, 27th May 2010. Running about two hours, it's action-packed throughout, with impressive, never-before-seen sand animation.
I had my first paper Saturday at 9am, helped by my school McDonald's and Subway both going 24 hours during the exam period. All my papers are open book this semester; the first, CS3251 Technology Strategy Management, was tough.
I caught Tropic Thunder a few weeks back and thought it decent, with plenty of cameos; I didn't realise Les Grossman was Tom Cruise until the credits. The Tugg Speedman and Alpa Chino exchanges made me laugh the most.
Comex 2008 ran at Suntec City Convention Centre from 28th to 31st August. I hooted plenty, including Canon colour and black ink for my mom's MX700 printer, plus a D-Link DNS-323 and a Wall-E pickup for myself.
I caught Wanted at GV VivoCity last night, a 109-minute film. It's pretty good, especially the visual effects, with plenty of bullet time and slow motion that I personally love. There's a nice twist near the end.
The Jason Bourne trilogy is one of the greatest of all time, easily on par with Lord of the Rings, so I can't wait for the fourth film. Producer Marshall told IESB that Bourne 4 will absolutely happen.
I caught Iron Man last weekend at Orchard Cineleisure and thought it superb, one of the best Marvel superhero films around. Guys will love the high-tech gear Tony Stark uses to build his armour. Bring on that technology!
