SingTel pledges support for National Paralympians
Official telco partner to Singapore National Olympic Council, SingTel reaffirms commitment to develop strong and inclusive sporting environment for all Singaporeans with latest sponsorship
Singapore, 21 June 2012 – Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) today announced its support for the Singapore National Paralympics Council (SNPC). As part of its continuous commitment to Singapore’s sporting quests, SingTel will be the Exclusive Multimedia Partner to SNPC for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
The eight Paralympians who will benefit from the sponsorship are Theresa Goh and Yip Pin Xiu for Swimming, Jovin Tan and Desiree Lim for Sailing and Laurentia Tan, Maxmillian Tan and Gemma Foo for Equestrian, and Nurulasyiqah Binte Mohammad Taha for Boccia.
This follows SingTel’s ongoing five-year commitment as Official Telecommunications Partner to the Singapore National Olympics Council (SNOC) in March, in support of athletes participating in SNOC-sanctioned games overseas.
“SingTel is a dedicated supporter of local sports,” said Ms Chua Sock Koong, Group CEO of SingTel. “Two years ago, we were the Official Multimedia Services Partner for the Youth Olympic Games and the sponsor of the national Swimming, Sailing and Football teams. We took our commitment to local sports to another level when we secured our partnership with SNOC in March this year; and today, we are proud to be supporting SNPC to help grow our pool of local sporting talent and create an inclusive sporting environment.”
Ms Chua added, “Our paralympians, in particular, have shown us that being physically disabled should not be an impediment to success. With hard and determination, anything is possible.”
“We are heartened to have SingTel share in our vision to build an inclusive sporting culture in Singapore and support the development of local disability sports. This partnership is also timely for our paralympians who are training hard in preparation for the upcoming Games and will appreciate the added support from SingTel,” said SNPC’s General Secretary and Chef-de-Mission (CDM) to London 2012 Paralympic Games, Mr Frankie Thanapal Sinniah.
SingTel Goes beyond Financial Support for Team Singapore
SingTel – Asia’s leading multimedia solutions provider – will be providing all athletes representing Singapore at the Olympic and Paralympic Games with complimentary airtime and data subscriptions that will enable them to keep in touch with their loved ones and receive emotional support while competing in London.
At the Team Singapore Flag Presentation Ceremony held at SingTel Comcentre this evening, Asian Para Games medallist and two-time Sportswoman of the Year, swimmer Theresa Goh, who received the Singapore flag on behalf of the Paralympic contingent, said: “I am really excited about SingTel’s sponsorship, which will enable access to more training opportunities to hone my skills and take my love for the sport further. Besides, with the complimentary mobile and data plan, I can talk to my family members without having to worry about the bills while I am overseas.”
Back at home, all mio TV subscribers will enjoy free access to unprecedented, round-the-clock coverage of the London 2012 Olympic Games across 13 channels (10 of which are HD), which includes over 680 hours of build-up programming and original programming featuring Games’ highlights. mio TV will aim to broadcast every ‘live’ event that Team Singapore athletes are participating in.
