Cable Matters USB-C to SATA III 2.5″ Cable is retailing for US$11.99 (S$16) on Amazon. It ships to Singapore directly for an additional US$4.64 (S$7).
This is a 25 cm cable that connects your 2.5″ SATA I/II/III hard drives via USB-C to your computer.
It supports USB 3.1 Gen 1 standards which will give you transfer speeds of up to 5 Gbps.
Despite SATA connectors are the same for 2.5″ and 3.5″ hard drives, this cable will not work with 3.5″ hard drives as it doesn’t deliver enough power.
I can’t seem to find any cable that goes from USB-C to SATA for 3.5″ hard drives.
A 2.5″ hard drive normally draws about 5V of power and can be powered by USB while a 3.5″ hard drive draws about 12V and requires an external power source.
