Tile Mate
On Friday, 28th September 2018, I saw Kinja Deals posted a post regarding Tile Mate discount on Amazon. It is almost 50% cheaper than their usual Amazon price of about US$100.
The Tile Mate 8-Pack retails for US$43.58 (S$60) and delivery to Singapore is an addition US$5.01 (S$7). That works out to be about S$8.40 per Tile Mate. In Singapore, Courts is selling a single Tile Mate for S$29 with no option to buy it in a pack.
I was expecting my order to be canceled as it might be a pricing error. But to my surprise, my order went through, and it was shipped out on the same day via UPS. I received the item 3 days later on Monday, 1st October 2018.
My first Tile product was the KeySmart Pro and I am impressed by it.
The Bluetooth connection to the phone is reliable. When the KeySmart Pro moves in and out of the Bluetooth range of your phone, it always connects back to your phone perfectly.
Even when the battery of my KeySmart Pro runs out, it connects back to my phone automatically once I charged it back up.

If you compare the Tile Mate with KeySmart Pro, the only disadvantage of the Tile Mate is the battery. The battery is built-in and is non-replaceable. The lifespan of the battery is about a year.
Once the battery runs out, you will need to get a new Tile Mate, and Tile will offer you a new Tile Mate at a discount as part of their reTile program.
We designed Tile to run a full year with zero upkeep—no battery replacement or charging necessary. When it’s time for a new Tile, you can upgrade your Tile to the latest technology – choose between Tile Mate, Tile Slim, Tile Style or Tile Sport. People reTiling today are receiving up to 40% off their new Tiles.
Energizer batteries are not cheap as well. For my Trackr Pixel, I have to replace the battery every three months. Each time I replace it, the battery cost is S$2.50, and that adds up to about S$10 per year.
I guess that is a reasonable tradeoff if each Tile Mate cost about S$10 (including shipping).
I will update this post again with the actual reTile cost once my Tile Mate’s battery run out next year.
