In my Looking Back 2011 post, I'd hoped for a new iMac and MacBook Air to replace my ageing desktop and MacBook Pro, and I managed it. My 2012 wish is simpler and cheaper: just those same two replacements.

Apple iMac 27″ (Late 2012)
I'd been waiting to order the new Apple iMac 27-inch (Late 2012), announced on 23rd October, to replace my four-year-old desktop. Apple's Online Store opened orders on 30th November, and I placed mine that day under my brother's name.

The Mayans were wrong, and we're all still here. There's a strong tradition of 'world ages' in Mayan literature, but the record has been distorted. According to the Popol Vuh, the K'iche' Maya believed we're living in one such age.

Google has released its annual Zeitgeist, a look at 2012 through the world's collective searches, offering a window into the year's biggest events and trends in Singapore. Top trending searches included Olympics 2012, Gangnam Style, SOPA, Legoland Malaysia, Zerg Rush.

Just like last year's 11-11-11, I'm marking 12-12-12 at 12:12pm. 2012 is the last year until 2100 when the month number matches the last two digits of the year. WordPress 3.5 was also released today.
BlackBerry JamHack 2012 (Singapore)
BlackBerry JamHack 2012 in Singapore runs from Friday, 12th October to Sunday, 14th October 2012. The hackathon is scheduled across ten APAC cities over two consecutive weekends, with five cities running simultaneously each weekend. You can register online.
Canon Product Launch For 2nd Half 2012
Canon's major product launches mostly fall in October. This year's event was held at Zaffereno on 5th October 2012, unveiling five PIXMA inkjet printers, five imageCLASS laser printers, a SELPHY compact photo printer, five PowerShot cameras, and one EOS DSLR.
SanDisk USB Flash Drives Lineup For 2012
On 10th July 2012, SanDisk announced four new USB flash drives for 2012. Among them, the USB 3.0 SanDisk Extreme transfers, stores, and shares large files up to ten times faster, reaching speeds of up to 190MB/s.
Western Digital My Passport 2012 (1TB)
Li Xiang got the Western Digital My Passport (1TB) from Challenger for S$189, or S$159 with member's price. In this new 2012 edition, WD has dropped the 'Essential SE' name, so it's simply My Passport, with USB 3.0 now standard.

The Nokia Lumia 900 was announced at CES 2012 with LTE, exclusive to AT&T. At Mobile World Congress 2012, Nokia revealed a HSDPA+ Dual Carrier variant for high-speed data, up to 42Mbps download, in countries without LTE, like Singapore.
Nokia At Mobile World Congress 2012 – Nokia Lumia 610
The Nokia Lumia 610 was the only new Lumia announced at MWC 2012, the 900 having debuted at CES. It arrives alongside Microsoft's strategy of lowering Windows Phone's minimum hardware requirements, and thus cost, by supporting cheaper chips.

The first three phones announced at Mobile World Congress 2012 were the Nokia Asha 202, 203, and 302. The Asha family is affordable and aimed at emerging markets, first introduced at Nokia World 2011. All run Nokia's Series 40 OS.
Diablo III Coming 15th May 2012
Diablo III arrives on 15th May 2012. You can pre-purchase digitally on Battle.net for S$90, while the retail box costs S$89 in Singapore and RM218 in Malaysia. If you prefer the Collector's Edition box, Amazon sells it for about US$100.
Nokia At Mobile World Congress 2012 – Day 04
Not much happened on the fourth and final day of MWC, and I skipped the conference, as I was flying back to Singapore. I woke around 9am, had breakfast, then packed my things, requesting transport at 2pm.

Day three began like day two, with a breakfast Q&A with the Nokia Maps team, Pino Bonetti and Mark Thomas. A Nokia Maps update is coming soon to Lumia devices, offering zoomed-in detail and letting you create and share places.

Day two was a touch more relaxed, opening with a breakfast Q&A with Dean Patrick of Nokia Entertainment at our hotel cafe. He demoed the new Nokia Reading, which lets you read and buy e-books and audiobooks on Lumia devices.

The first day began at 6am, with the bus collecting us from the hotel at 7am. The Nokia booth sat in Hall 7, an eight-minute walk from the entrance. We reached the venue by 8am, but it was already packed.

Thanks to Nokia and Nokia Connects, I had the privilege of attending Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, Spain, from 27th February to 1st March. I flew Lufthansa for the first time, with no direct route, routing via Frankfurt.

IT Show 2012 runs from today, 8th March, until Sunday, 11th March, across levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 at Suntec Singapore, open noon to 9pm. As I've had a few emails about the promotions, I thought I'd share.

The Sony CP-ELS USB Portable Power Supply launches today at IT Show 2012, Suntec Singapore. It retails for S$29.90 in black or white, with a 2,000mAh capacity and weighing just 87g. My brother notes it can charge a BlackBerry 9900.
