Targus 15″ Newport Backpack
Targus 15″ Newport Backpack which retails for S$199 is part of the updated Targus Newport Collection which was announced last month, May 2021.
The updated Targus Newport Collection also features the Targus 15″ Newport Ultra Slim Backpack (S$149), Targus Newport Convertible Tote/Backpack (S$199), Targus 15″ Newport North-South Tote (S$149), Targus Newport Crossbody Pouch (S$69), and
Targus 13-14″ Newport Sleeve (S$69).
The bag is made from water-repellent twill nylon, weighs 640 g, and has 29 x 14.5 x 41 cm dimensions.
Targus 15″ Newport Backpack is a 15L backpack that can fit any 15″ or smaller laptop. To be precise, the laptop compartment can hold a laptop up to 35.9 x 24.7 cm.
The first impression I have of the bag is its very smooth zipper. The zipper looks premium, too, with its metal trimmings.
There is only one handle on the bag, which is at the top. I thought the two circular metal pieces are bolted to the top of the bag to give it extra durability. But actually, it is just for design, and it is not bolted to anything.
The padding on the strap is alright, though I wish it can be slightly thicker.
There is a luggage strap for you to secure your backpack to the handle of your luggage at the back.
The back will stand upright by itself since the bottom is flat. Some backpacks have studs at the bottom to prevent the whole bag from touching the floor, but this backpack doesn’t have it.
The bag is actually very slim if you look at it from the side.
On the right side of the bag, there is a side pocket for quick access. You can throw in your keys, wallet, or mobile phone inside there.
Including the side pocket, four other compartments can be accessed directly.
The front compartment has two zippers and is big enough to hold your chargers and cables.
The middle compartment is not padded, and if you are ok with it, you can fit in an 11″ iPad Pro or your writing book.
For anything else bigger, there is the main compartment. In fact, for some reason, you need to carry two laptops or another iPad Pro 12.9″, you can put it inside the main compartment.
There is also a zipper pocket, two pockets, and two pen holders inside the main compartment.
I find the size of the non-zipper pockets weird. I can’t fit in the default MacBook Pro charger there. The only thing I can store there is probably cables and dongles and smaller writing pads?
Overall, this got to be my favorite Targus backpack. The build and design are premium looking, away from the typical laptop backpack that Targus always make.
It got my favorite color combination, black and orange, which reminded me of Porter-Yoshida.
The bag itself is slim and lightweight, which is pleasant to carry.
