Gaston Luga – Splash Backpack
Gaston Luga Splash Backpack is my second backpack from Gaston Luga. The first being the Gaston Luga Praper Backpack.
Gaston Luga is a Swedish backpack retailer from Stockholm, Sweden. The company is founded by Carl Sundqvist with the vision of making backpacks that incorporate Scandinavian minimalism with elegance to suit different occasions.
The Splash is the latest backpack from Gaston Luga which is launched this month (June 2020). It retails for S$149 and comes in six colors:
- Black
- Black & Brown
- Olive & Black
- Grey & Black
- White & Black
- Mustard Yellow & Black
I chose Black for the Splash because it is the safest color and doesn’t dirty easily.
If you would like to buy it, you can use my coupon code, lesterchan, and that entitles you to a 15% discount.
After the discount, the Gaston Luga Splash Backpack will cost S$126.65.
Shipping is free to Singapore, and it takes 7 to 10 days to reach you. For express shipping by DHL, it takes 2 to 5 days, and it cost an additional S$19.
From now till 17th August 2020, you will get a free white Gaston Luga tote bag for every purchase of the backpack.
Splash is a tapered backpack, thicker at the bottom, and the thickness gradually reduces as it reaches the top. It measures measures 38 x 27 x 11.5 (cm) and weighs 800g.
Splash is made of Polyurethane (PU) material. The material makes it waterproof, but the disadvantage of PU is that it will disintegrate after a few years as it losses its flexibility and become brittle.
Because it is tapered, there are no side pockets. Instead, there are two front pockets on the left and right.
Most leather-like bags have thin bag straps with not much padding. For the Splash, the padding on the strap is sufficient, but I think the bag strap can be thicker in width.
You can hook the buckle to one of the three levels depending on whether your bag is empty of full.
To keep the top slim because of the tapered design, you can button the sides together.
There is a laptop compartment inside the bag.
I have no issues fitting a MacBook Pro 15″ inside the laptop compartment.
Overall, the Splash is sleek, lightweight, and has a small footprint. The only disadvantage which I can think of is the PU material as it will disintegrate after a few years.
It is not meant to be a bag that carries a lot of things. Probably just your laptop, accessories pouch, headphones, and a notebook.
