I am using the Apple Pencil (2nd Generation) with my Apple iPad Pro 12.9″ (3rd Generation).

With my new Apple iPad Pro 11″ (M4), I could not reuse the Apple Pencil (2nd Generation) as it only supports Apple Pencil Pro.

Based on Apple, there are only four differences between Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (2nd Generation):

  • Barrel roll
  • Squeeze
  • Haptic Feedback
  • Find My

I still don’t see why Apple could not support the Apple Pencil (2nd Generation) for the M4 Apple iPad Pro. What an excellent way to get people to buy the new Apple Pencil Pro just for their new M4 Apple iPad Pro.

Anyway, I got mine from Shopee for S$171.20 after stacking all the vouchers. The usual retail price is S$199, making it about 15% cheaper and cheaper than getting it tax-free from the airport.

However, a few days after I bought it, Shopee ran another flash sale, and it dropped to S$153, making it 23% cheaper than the retail price. So, if you want to buy an Apple Pencil Pro, camp at Shopee, and that is the price you should watch out for.

Among the four features that differ, my favorite is the haptic feedback. Though it is not natural for a pencil to provide haptic feedback in real life, the feeling of the Apple Pencil Pro providing haptic feedback when interacting with the M4 iPad felt good (similar to a mouse click).
