TP-Link has two models of 10Gbps unmanaged switches. TP-Link TL-SX1008 8-Port 10G Desktop/Rackmount Switch and TP-Link DS1008X Omada 8-Port 10G Desktop/Rackmount Switch. From what I read, both are the same. The only difference is the warranty period and of course the price. TL-SX1008 is for the consumers. Hence, it comes with a shorter 3-year warranty, while the DS1008X is for businesses and hence comes with a 5-year warranty. Depending on the retailers, the price difference for both models ranges from S$100 to S$200.
I wanted a 10Gbps unmanaged switch to upgrade my house network to support 10Gbps speed. I intend to get the cheapest possible 10Gbps unmanaged switch I can find.
OctoFire 96W/19.2A 8-Port USB 3.0 Hub/Charger was launched on Kickstarter early this year on 27th January 2015. After raising a total of US$115,414 out of their initial goal of US$20,000 from a total of 1,270 backers, it was funded on 26th February 2015.
I was one of their “Super Early Bird” backer and hence I paid US$59 (S$85) for it with an additional US$15 (S$21) for shipping to Singapore. In total, I paid US$74 (S$106) for it.
On the night of the PC Show 2011, my brother called me and said the D-Link DGS-1008D (which I got back in IT Show 2009) switch in my room is spoilt and there is no power being supplied to it. Went back home, tested and verified that it is the case.
Went down the next day to PC Show 2011 again and got back the same switch, D-Link DGS-1008D switch, for S$85. I was expecting them to change the model number since it is totally a new design, but unfortunately it remains the same. This time I got 2 pieces instead of just 1 as I will be placing the additional switch in the living room to facilitate the switch to Fibre Internet.
