The USB 3.0 Western Digital My Passport Air is the best looking portable harddisk to complement the design of your MacBook Air/Pro. Two different capacities are available, the 500GB is retailing for S$129 and the 1TB is retailing for S$219.
The enclosure is made up of anodised aluminium and it measures (length x width x depth) 112mm x 83mm x 11mm and weighs 160g. It is meant to be used with a Mac and hence it comes pre-formatted in HFS+ Journaled.
Launched on the 8th April 2014, the USB 3.0 Seagate Backup Plus Slim Portable Drive comes in three different capacities (500GB, 1TB and 2TB) in four different colors (Blue, Black, Red and Silver) and works on both PC and Mac.

I was expecting it to be difficult to find since USB 3.0 cables are not that widespread yet in physical stores. Luckily, I was wrong and I managed to find the Daiyo USB 3.0 A To Micro B Cable from Funan’s Challenger and it cost S$13.90 (after member’s discount: S$12.51).
The Moshi Cardette 3 is in its third generation and hence the number 3. It also coincides with USB 3.0, I wonder did they refresh the product each time there is a major release to the USB specifications?
For the unaware, the Moshi Cardette 3 is a USB 3.0 Card Reader that has a built-in 2-Port USB 3.0 Hub. It is lightweight (weighing at 88g) which makes it suitable for carrying around together with your laptop (which is what I am doing). It is retailing for S$69.90.
Last week on the 17th October 2013, Western Digital launches the new My Passport Slim. It is the first thin drives to offer up to 2 TB capacity, a metal enclosure, and 256-bit hardware-based encryption.
The included WD SmartWare Pro data protection software will allow you to backup your data on the My Passport Slim and keep an extra copy on your Dropbox account. Similarly, you can also back up your Dropbox account to the My Passport Slim.
Ignore the long product name, it is basically a 9-port USB 3.0 powered hub with an additional USB charging port. Technically you can use all the 9 ports for charging as well but they might not be enough current because each of the 9 port can output a maximum of 900mA. From the USB 3.0 specifications, 900mA is the maximum amount of current that can be output from a USB 3.0 port.
Western Digital announced the My Passport Ultra back in May 2013. Many of you are familer with the popular My Passport. My Passport Ultra is basically a premium model of the My Passport.
It is available in 500GB, 1TB and 2TB in size, it comes preloaded with WD SmartWare Pro backup software with Dropbox integration, hardware encryption, and password protection to safeguard against unauthorized drive access and it comes with a carrying pouch.
This is the new 2012 edition and WD has dropped the name “Essential SE” and hence the name is just Western Digital My Passport. Also, USB 3.0 is now the standard feature.
