During Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2016, the co-founder and CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings, announces the launch of Netflix in almost every country in the world except China.
I have been a Netflix subscriber for almost a year (since April 2015) and I have been waiting for this day. Using a VPN to watch Netflix is slightly slower and cumbersome. You also have to block Google DNS if you want to cast it on your Google Chromecast. Getting the Netflix app is also a problem since it is only available in those market that Netflix is in.
Netflix is coming to Singapore in early 2016 alongside to countries like South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Hopefully the selection of movies and TV series are good.
What Is Netflix (From: Wikipedia)
Netflix, Inc. is an American provider of on-demand Internet streaming media available to viewers in North and South America, the Caribbean, and parts of Europe (Denmark, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom), and of flat rate DVD-by-mail in the United States, where mailed DVDs are sent via Permit Reply Mail. The company was established in 1997 and is headquartered in Los Gatos, California. It started its subscription-based digital distribution service in 1999, and by 2009 it was offering a collection of 100,000 titles on DVD and had surpassed 10 million subscribers.
Unblock-Us was started in 2010 in Toronto, Canada. They are the first company in the world to offer a DNS-based solution (SmartDNS) to give people access to content not available in their location. They strongly believe in anonymity and privacy and hence they moved their operations to Barbados in response to the proposed Canadian legislation which would have required them to keep logs on their customer activities for 6 months.
There are two ways in which you can watch Netflix in Singapore. The first is using a VPN and the other is using a DNS. Personally, I prefer the DNS method because you just have to configure your router’s DNS and point to UnoTelly’s SmartDNS. With your router configured, everybody connected to the router can easily access Netflix on their computer or on their mobile/tablet devices.
