SingTel Bridge Data Roaming

Li Xiang and I will be going to Jakarta, Indonesia tomorrow for the weekend to visit my secondary school friend Sugih and to meet Pei Jun there.

My iPhone 4 is as good as a paper weight when I go overseas because I can’t use data on it due to expensive data roaming. I always wanted to try SingTel’s Bridge DataRoam Unlimited but didn’t have chance to read up more about it. So for tomorrow’s trip, I decided to research a little.

A.C. Ryan Announces Playon!HD2 And Playon!HD Mini2

A.C. Ryan has announced new Playon!HD2 and Playon!HD Mini2 shortly after I got my Playon! HD back in November 2010! Damn!

I love the new features of the Playon!HD2 especially the upgraded wired networking to 10/100/1000Mbps because on Playon! HD, it is only 10/100Mbps and transferring files to it over LAN is taking forever! My home network is already on 10/100/1000Mbps wired with Cat6 RJ45 cables.

Verizon’s iPhone 4 Summary

Verizon Wireless announced last night (12am SGT) that they will be selling the iPhone 4 as well in the US. The difference from AT&T and perhaps the rest of the world iPhone 4 is that it will be a CDMA version as opposed to a GSM version.

In terms of physical design, it is more or less the same with only three slight differences with the metal band surrounding the iPhone 4. See top, left and right view comparison.

Apple One-Day Chinese New Year Sale

Apple will be holding a one-day Chinese New Year Sale, This Friday, 14th January 2010.

If I am not mistaken, they held it once every year, instead of Black Friday in the US, we have a Red Chinese New Year in Singapore. I did not get anything from the 2010 sale. For the 2009 sale, I got the Belkin Auto Charger For iPod And iPhone.

Mac App Store

As you probably heard by now, the Mac App Store is live. It is bundled together with OS X 10.6.6 update. US$4.99 is the new US$0.99 in the Mac App Store. I have not gotten any paid app from there yet as I bought all the software directly from the software company itself and hence the Mac App Store is pretty useless for me in terms of paid app. I only wish you can transfer license for those Mac software that you have bought to the Mac App Store so that it will handle the updating for you. But right now that is not possible. The only way is you have to buy it again which is stupid. Lets see what happen to the Mac App Store eventually.

Moved To Vodien

If you are seeing this blog post, it means the DNS has resolved correctly for you. I have moved the site from my dedicated server in Frro to a VPS in Vodien. I did it because I wanted to play with more Linux stuff. And if I did it on the dedicated server at Frro, it may screw some of the sites hosted there and may cause downtime for them which is a absolutely no-no.

In terms of control panel, previously I am using DirectAdmin and now on the VPS, I am using CPanel. As CPanel is much more popular than DirectAdmin, there are tons of resources and tutorials available out there. I followed this tutorial, Memcached and PHP with cPanel, and got memcached up and running within 15 minutes on the VPS!
