WordPress 3.2.1

WordPress 3.2.1 has been released!

After more than a million downloads of WordPress 3.2, we’re now releasing WordPress 3.2.1 into the wild. This maintenance release fixes a server incompatibility related to JSON that’s unfortunately affected some of you, as well as a few other fixes in the new dashboard design and the Twenty Eleven theme. If you’ve already updated to 3.2, then this update will be even faster than usual, thanks to the new feature in 3.2 that only updates files that have been changed, rather than replacing all the files in your installation.

Fixes (Ticket):

  • JSON, the admin
  • A little bit tidier
  • Edge cases covered

Lester Chan’s WordPress Plugins July 2008 Update

Here is my July 2008 WordPress plugins update containing all my 15 WordPress plugins. All of them should work on WordPress 2.5 as well as WordPress 2.6. It is not tested for any version below that.

In general, most of the updates are bug fixes. These updates in theory should be able to work till WordPress 2.7 when it comes out end of this year.

My new semester will begin on 2nd week August 2008, and hence I will be busy with my school work. So no updates to my plugins will be out till the end of this year unless it is a critical bug or a security issue.

Be sure to read the readme.html and checkout the changelog for more information and most importantly NOTE THE TABS AT THE TOP

WP-ShowHide 1.00

I have created a new plugin, WP-ShowHide. It is a simple plugin (83 lines of codes including comments) with no configuration screen needed.

This new plugin came about when Hisham tweeted me about whether there is a “Show/Hide Press Release” WordPress plugin like what Engadget does when posting a Press Release.

I can’t seem to find it and decided to code one myself using WordPress ShortCode API. I made the plugin more generic rather than focusing on Press Releases, so you can have multiple Show/Hide content within a post.

I tested it on WordPress 3.1.1 but technically it should work with any version higher than WordPress 2.5 because ShortCode was introduced in WordPress 2.5.

WP-ShowHide Description

Allows you to embed content within your blog post via WordPress ShortCode API and toggling the visibility of the cotent via a link. By default the content is hidden and user will have to click on the “Show Content” link to toggle it. Similar to what Engadget is doing for their press releases.

Example usage: [ showhide type="pressrelease" ]Press Release goes in here.[ /showhide ] (Remove the spaces before and after the square brackets [].)

Download: WP-ShowHide 1.00
Documentation: WP-ShowHide

Demostration/Example Usage
Remove the spaces before and after the square brackets [].

Tag: [ showhide ][ /showhide ]

Tag: [ showhide type="links" more_text="Show Links (%s More Words)" less_text="Hide Links (%s More Words)" ][ /showhide ]

Tag: [ showhide type="visibility" hidden="no" more_text="Show Visibility Content (%s More Words)" less_text="Hide Visibility Content (%s More Words)" ][ /showhide ]

The visibility of this content is set to display by default instead of hidden.

WordPress 3.6

WordPress 3.6 has been released!

User Features

  • The new Twenty Thirteen theme inspired by modern art puts focus on your content with a colorful, single-column design made for media-rich blogging.
  • Revamped Revisions save every change and the new interface allows you to scroll easily through changes to see line-by-line who changed what and when.
  • Post Locking and Augmented Autosave will especially be a boon to sites where more than a single author is working on a post. Each author now has their own autosave stream, which stores things locally as well as on the server (so much harder to lose something) and there’s an interface for taking over editing of a post, as demonstrated beautifully by our bearded buddies in the video above.
  • Built-in HTML5 media player for native audio and video embeds with no reliance on external services.
  • The Menu Editor is now much easier to understand and use.

Developer features

  • A new audio/video API gives you access to metadata like ID3 tags.
  • You can now choose HTML5 markup for things like comment and search forms, and comment lists.
  • Better filters for how revisions work, so you can store a different amount of history for different post types.
  • Tons more listed on the Codex, and of course you can always browse the over 700 closed tickets.
