WordPress 2.8 Beta 1

I would always recommend starting a fresh install of WP2.8 rather then upgrading.

How I would upgrade:
1. I would delete everything except /wp-content/ folder and wp-config.php
2. Upload everything again.
3. Delete those plugins folder that requires updating
4. Upload the updated plugin again.

Left over files are always an issue.

Not that I know off. Since you upgraded to WP2.8, your database structure has changed as well so I don’t think it is possible to reverse it.

Could you try on my wp-polls2.50 on WP2.8 Beta/RC1, http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wp-polls.zip and see if the same happens as well?

» Posted By Lester Chan On 8th June 2009 @ 08:53

For non-developers using WP, you can except multi-instances of all widgets even those plugin that has widgets provided that the plugin author has updated the code.

Taking WP-Polls as an example, you can have 10 Polls Widget now instead of the usual 1.

Loading JavaScript In Footer In WordPress 2.8

What glitch?

» Posted By Lester Chan On 1st June 2009 @ 23:13

It is possible to load only JS at certain pages in WP-Admin but not on the front end. Taking an instance of my plugin WP-Polls, I will not know when the user will have a poll within the page, and to play safe just load it at global. But since loading has been moved to the footer, it is easier to set a variable and check the variable at the end of the page.

I am still waiting for the API to compess and combine JS scripts on the front end as well as currently it is being done at the backend and it only allows WP JS and do not really have an API.

Oh I see, I think there are quiet a number of ways to do it. For me, I am not really a OO person. I think it is the same because the internal wp_print_scripts() will be called in the wp_head. and hence if you enqueue any script before wp_head(), the effect will be the same

Hi Viper007Bond,

I thought “wp_enqueue_scripts” hook is for plugins to enqueue all the JavaScripts/CSSs to the hook and I think that is the reason why I did it there. Previously I did it in the hook wp_head which I did register_script and then print_script. I figure out it is better to just call 1 function to register and print at the same time and hence I decided to go for the enqueue script in the wp_enqueue_scripts hook.

I don’t really like Codex as everybody can edit it and most of the time the information is oudated.

JavaScript In My Plugins II

No problem perhaps I can recommend GD Ratings? It is a good ratings plugin as well.

» Posted By Lester Chan On 12th June 2009 @ 09:06

No, they are not

» Posted By Lester Chan On 4th May 2009 @ 01:23

You have to use SVN to checkout. There is no zip file as far as I know.

» Posted By Lester Chan On 8th April 2009 @ 12:53

There should not any .svn folder inside if you download from the URl above.

» Posted By Lester Chan On 29th January 2009 @ 22:26

Are you talking about WP-PostRatings 2.50 Beta 1 or what? I can’t reproduce the problem. My dev machine is a Windows and this site you are seeing is a Linux and both works fine.

I just double checked the code as well, no way it will produce “//” unless you did not choose the ratings style in WP-Admin -> Ratings -> Ratings Options. And I believed that is the case!
