Having been seeded the Dell XPS 12 for a three-part review, I begin with unboxing and design. The XPS 12 was announced on 30th August 2012 at IFA, with the base model now retailing for S$1,828.
Full hands-on reviews of gear I bought or was sent, with the pros, cons, and whether it is worth your money.
Having been seeded the Dell XPS 12 for a three-part review, I begin with unboxing and design. The XPS 12 was announced on 30th August 2012 at IFA, with the base model now retailing for S$1,828.
The Dell S2440L 24-inch Monitor (S$379) is part of Dell's new S series, alongside the S2240L, S2340L, and S2740L. The smaller models are virtually borderless, while the S2440L and S2740L are almost frameless, with flush edge-to-edge glass.
Western Digital is entering the router market with three routers and two more featuring built-in storage. The range runs from the My Net N600 at S$99 up to the N900 Central 2TB at S$399. Here I review the N900.
The Cisco Linksys EA6500 succeeds the EA4500 and is now in stores for S$349. It uses the new 802.11ac wireless technology, still under development, to deliver near-gigabit wireless speeds. Most AC routers currently reach a theoretical maximum of 1.3Gbps.
The Toshiba FlashAir is a no-frills take on the Flucard Pro and Eye-Fi Pro. Distributed in Singapore by Trek 2000, it retails for around S$100. Since Trek doesn't enforce an RRP, I can't quote an official price. Only the 8GB.
Aftershock is a Singapore-based company making gaming laptops, so unless you're into gaming you've probably not heard of them. Based in Singapore, the team of hardware junkies, gamers, and IT professionals builds custom gaming notebooks aimed at the highest performance.
I'm no audiophile, but I can hear the difference between headsets. I don't own many, preferring earphones, my only one being the Nokia Purity HD Stereo Headset by Monster at S$298. The Logitech G930 Wireless Gaming Headset retails for S$249.
The Sony MW1 Smart Wireless Headset Pro retails for S$168 at Xperia concept stores and Sony stores. It's a Bluetooth stereo headset that streams music from your phone via A2DP, and can work as a MP3 player and FM radio.
My Razer Lycosa has served me four years, but its rubber coating has worn away, leaving only the blue glow. It was time for a new keyboard, and the Logitech G19 arrived to pair with my G600 mouse.
Before this HP Envy 4 review, note there are two quite different models. I'm reviewing the HP Envy 4 (1035TX), an Ultrabook, while the entry-level 1026TU is what HP calls a Sleekbook. The Envy 4 Ultrabook retails for S$1,299.
The Buffalo AirStation HighPower WCR-HP-G300 is a budget router retailing for just S$59. Aimed at lower-end consumers, its specs are entry-level, supporting 10/100Mbps LAN/WAN and 2.4GHz Wireless-N speeds up to 300Mbps. It's also remarkably light.
The Epson LabelWorks LW-400 is one of three label printers from Epson, alongside the LW-300 and LW-900P. The LW-400 is the mid-range model at S$89, with the entry-level LW-300 at S$69 and the top-of-the-line LW-900P at S$299.
Adobe InDesign CS6 is included in all CS6 suites except Production Premium, and has been available in Singapore since late April 2012. Excluding taxes, an InDesign CS6 upgrade costs S$190, the full version S$1,057, while the CS6 Master Collection S$3,924.
I'm not an MMO gamer, so the Logitech G600 is my first ever MMO gaming mouse. It's Logitech's answer to the Razer Naga, announced in June 2012 and retailing for S$99 since mid-July. It comes with a three-year warranty.
The Flucard Pro is made by Singapore's Trek 2000 International, the very company that invented and patented the Thumbdrive. The 8GB model retails for S$79 at all Challenger stores, with a 16GB version also available. It's an SD card.
Adobe Illustrator CS6 is included in all CS6 suites and has been available in Singapore since late April 2012. Excluding taxes, an Illustrator CS6 upgrade costs S$378 and the full version S$906, while the CS6 Master Collection runs S$3,924.

The Nokia Lumia 900 is what Nokia's flagship Windows Phone 7.5 should have been all along. Where the Lumia 800 felt rushed, the 900 feels just right. Sadly, Microsoft has effectively killed every current Windows Phone with Windows Phone 8.
The Logitech Touch Mouse M600 was announced in February 2012, and I'd been keen to try it. It's now available in Singapore for S$89. Its headline feature is a responsive touch surface that reacts directly to your fingers.
Thanks to Dell Singapore, I got to spend two weeks with the Dell UltraSharp U3011 30-inch Monitor, which retails for S$1,509. Like upgrading a computer, once you move to a bigger screen you never look back.
I got to try the Alienware M14X, and my first impression was how heavy it is, at 2.9kg. But this is Alienware, whose gaming laptops were never meant to be light. The base model starts at S$1,899.
