WP-Email And WP-Print With WordPress 2.5

For some reasons, the core permalink structure of WordPress 2.5 has been changed just before it is being released (the problem is not there with WordPress 2.5 RC1).

If you get a 404 on WP-Email and WP-Print posts/pages, you need to get the latest development version of the respective plugins. Refer to the post above this.

I also wished I have more time to spend updating my plugins, but as my school is nearing the semester end, all my projects deadline are also coming and so are the end of semester exams. I can’t fork out any valuable time to update all my plugins for WP 2.5 and hence, 1st June 2008 should be the day I will roll out the updates to my plugins as my last paper is on 6th May 2008.

But in the mean time, I will try my best to address all issues related with my plugins and WordPress 2.5.

  1. thanks for the update. i can’t wait for the upgraded versions.

i had one suggestion though. i feel that the wp-email plugin is getting to big and bloated. (wp-print is just fine) i hope that you might release a lightweight wp-email plugin that just does the basics of allowing people to email the article to another person.

anyways i’ve been using your plugins for a long time and they have been great. keep up the good work!

  2. Hi,

Thanks to update wp-print. Unfortunally, i use permalink structure like category/mypost.html (WordPress 2.5). But i see that the new version just work with category/mypost/ structure. can i get your plugin to work with mypost.html/print/ ?? It worked with wordpress 2.3.3 and wp-print 2.20.

    Thanks

  3. @sk: In what way it is bloated?
@Dominic: I tested with “/%postname%.html/” (without the quotes) as the permalink, it works fine.

  4. My compliments to you for your great plug-ins and the support you maintain while a full time student.

I just upgraded my blog to WP 2.5 and I spent a bit of time going in some circles finding the WP-Email plugin version that your wrote for the new permalink structure that we find in WP 2.5.

So I just have a small bit of advice and that is to make it slightly more accessible for 2.5 users. IMHO I feel a lot of 2.5 users are trying to use the version of WP-EMail for 2.3.3 and therefore getting all the 404 errors.

If you don’t mind I am going to write about your plugin and offer the link for the WP-Email 2.3 download for WP 2.5. If this bothers you I will pull the post from my site:
    Insidethefold

Again you have offered th community great plugins, thanks for your efforts and support.

    Josh

  5. @josh: sure go ahead, the reason why I did not make it available yet at the site is because it is still undergoing testing. Once it is compatible with WP2.5, I will edit the post accordingly.

  6. Ok…I will keep an eye out for your update when you have time and make any changes to my post.

Thanks and good luck with your finals,

    Josh

  7. Hey Lester,

Thanks for the quick reply to my email. I installed the latest version of the plugins and am still facing a page not found error. I utilize the following permalink structure:

    /%category%/%postname%

Do I have to make a change anywhere in the source code to work with this permalink structure?

  8. put a / at the end of postname to see if it works. I just tested this and it works perfectly fine on this site.

  9. Oh, sorry man.

Just redefine the structure and put again in /category/postname/ and it works. Well, sorry the 3 post.

Will link to you for your amazing work man.

  10. Where do you redefine the structure under WP2.5? My site returned the 404 error for many of the pages when I clicked the print icon. I’ve had to disable the plug-in (v2.30 beta).
My permalink structure is by full date (for posts) and page hierarchy (for pages).

    Good luck on your finals…

  11. I tested with most of the common structures like “/%postname%/”, “/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/”, /%category/%postname%/” etc and it all works fine for me.

Try on the default theme with no other plugins activated. Are you using a caching plugin?

  12. Thanks GaMerZ; I just finished trying all things but still could not get v2.3b2 to work.

I uninstalled WP-Print using the button in the settings tab for it; I then deleted it entirely from my server. I uploaded the version grabbed just tonight again from your site. Tried reactivating it without changing any settings and still got 404 errors; also tried the default WP theme (with the added line required to make the icon/text appear in page.php).

I went to the permalinks setting and clicked save and saw it say that the structure had been recreated. Sadly, still got 404 errors.

My permalinks is set to “Day and Name”.

  13. Did you deactivate all plugins to eliminate any plugin conflict possibilities. If that does not work. Try installing WP on a new location in your server and try to run WP-Email with it.

  14. Yes – that fixed it; now both posts and pages work with WP-Print!

Just so others visiting here know…
    – searched wp-print.php for “$uris = get_option(‘page_uris’);”
    – changed it to
    $page_uris = $wp_rewrite->page_uri_index();
    $uris = $page_uris[0];

Thanks — nice to have it working again!

  15. Thanks for replying to my email! I read all of the stuff here and tested my permalinks. Still 404. I searched for $uris. I don’t even have that code, I don’t think. It’s not in wp-print.php anyway. What can I do?

I have my permalink structure as /%postname%/, but when set as default… it works!

  16. We are having an issue with two plugins. WP-Email works great on it’s own and iinclude page works well on it’s own. but when both of them are activated we are having errors each place we have an iincluded page in templates. They are conflicting with some code in the post.php in the wp-includes directory of the root. This is the error we are getting:

Warning: Attempt to assign property of non-object in /home/.filibuster/thrive/dev.thriveafrica.org/wp-includes/post.php on line 2945

The iincluded page shows up but after the error. If anyone has any ideas or fixes or patches, can you email us at mlipovsky@thriveafrica.org. Thanks so much.

  18. The problem lies with contact.php of your theme as my email.php already check if that function exists before declaring it.
