Canon Launches Canon EOS-1D X

Was invited to the global launch of Canon EOS-1D X (Press Release) that happen at 1 pm sharp yesterday at Canon Singapore Office. The Canon EOS-1D X is an integration between the EOS 1D and 1Ds product lines. This integration combines the best of both worlds from both models (shooting speed and image quality) into a single form factor.

The EOS-1D X is capable of continuous shooting at a speed of 12 frames-per-second, it is powered by the new Dual DIGIC 5+ image processor and on top of it, it has another DIGIC 4 image processor just for Autofocus (AF)! This brings up the number of image processors in the Canon EOS-1D X to 3! It also features a Gigabit LAN Port for network connectivity! This allows you to transfer shots immediately after you have taken them to your computer!

Sima Ultra Bright Video Light SL-20LX

Thanks to DK who bought the Sima Ultra Bright Video Light (SL-20LX) from Amazon.

Justin Ng and Dennis got it together as well after we saw Daniel Tsou brought it along for one of the tech event. Sometime it is frustrating when tech events happen at places with low light conditions and the photo taken has lots of noise in it. Paid about S$40 for it including shipping (as we split the shipping cost).

Canon First Product Launch For 2011

I was invited to the blogger session of Canon’s First Product Launch for 2011 at the brand new Canon Imaging Academy (CIA) which is just located right beside their office at Keppel Bay Tower!

The CIA will focus on developing new curricula, courses, and events that will enhance the imaging experience of programme participants. Courses planned for 2011 include basic photography, intermediate photography, strobist, studio lighting, creative photography and editing with DPP courses. The CIA will also introduce videography courses in 2011 to meet the increasing demand of enthusiasts who enjoy creating movies using Canon’s LEGRIA camcorders. For those who prefer a greater emphasis on hands-on experience, the CIA will also offer photography outings and overseas photo clinics. Each of the courses are designed to suit the varying skill-levels of participants from beginners to intermediate.

Canon PowerShot S95

Bought the Canon PowerShot S95 from the Canon Service Center at Keppel Towers for S$531 (usual price S$669) through the Canon Privilege Purchase Program. This program entice users to purchase another Canon product by allowing trade-in/buy-back of their previously owned Canon products and offering them about 20.5% off the recommended retail price (RRP).

I traded-in my Canon IXUS 860IS which I got from Malaysia back in July 2008 for the new Canon PowerShot S95 which was just launched a few weeks back. The RRP of the Canon PowerShot S95 is S$669 and after the trade-in, I paid S$531. That is about 20.6% off.

Cisco Flip MinoHD Event

Went for the Cisco Flip MinoHD event yesterday at The Queen And Mangosteen located in VivoCity. It is my first time at The Queen And Mangosteen and the food there is very nice! Definitely will be going back there again.

Back to the Flip MinoHD, wasn’t really impressed by it. It can’t auto focus, no macro, no optical zoom and judging for the unit I played yesterday, the battery life isn’t that great. However having said that, the selling point of the Flip MinoHD is not the device itself but the software (FlipShare) that comes with it.

Canon EF-S18-200mm f3.5-5.6 IS Lens

Bought the Canon EF-S18-200mm f3.5-5.6 IS Lens from Alan Photo on Saturday for S$1,070. I regretted not getting the Canon 50D Kit III instead because at that time I have no clue about photography. I wanted something cheap and simple but now I finally know the limitations of the Kit I Lens aka EF-S18-55mm. I wanted a multipurpose lens and it seems the EF-S18-200mm fits into the bill and recommended by others.

Bought the Lens Pen as well for travelling purposes!

Phottix Cleon 2 Wireless Remote C8

Bought the Phottix Cleon 2 Wireless Remote C8 from Red Dot Photo for S$59. You can pay using PayPal and delivery is free! Ordered on the 16th February 2010 and it was delivered to me in just 2 days, on the 18th February 2010!

The reason why I decided to get a remote control is because I have been bringing out my tripod lately to take group shots and it is kinda a hassle to keep repeatedly setting the timer. Did some research on Club Snap Forums and found out that the Phottix is one of the best wireless remote around.

Digi Cabi Electronic Dry Cabinet AD-050

Mom bought for me the Digi Cabi Electronic Dry Cabinet AD-050 for S$209 at Challenger VivoCity. The reason I decided to get a dry cabinet is because I saw some rust on my lens filter when I put my camera in my room. I only on the air-conditioner at night, so I am guessing the rust is created by the condensation of cold air. Since the camera cost about S$1.7K and it is an expensive and ongoing investment, I think it is worth it to get a dry cabinet.
