The earliest Christmas party goes to Nokia! Attended Nokia’s Media Christmas Party yesterday at Serenity (VivoCity). There are 3 early bird special gifts which is the Nokia 8800 Arte!
I won a Nokia E72 (White Edition) during the lucky draw as most of the journalists left before the lucky draw started and there are like about 15 of us left with 10 lucky draw prizes. The Nokia E72 (White Edition) has much more accessories (like car mount, bluetooth earpiece) than the normal Nokia E72.
SingTel is the first and only teleco operator (for the time being) to bring in the Nokia N8 and it has been available from 5th November 2010 onwards. To celebrate the launch of N8 and together with Sony Music, they have brought in David Archuleta (Wikipedia). Just in case you are wondering who is David Archuleta (like me at first), he is the runner-up of the seventh season of American Idol and he is the guy who sang Crush. I know the song crush from radio but I have no idea who sang he sang it till today.
For more information, check out SingTel N8 Page and my Nokia N8 Review.
I have been seeded the Nokia N8 through the Nokia Rangers program. I must say that N8 has a fantastic built and hardware specs and the camera is just amazing. But the Symbian^3 kills the hardware totally. The feeling it gives me is that the OS is not able to make use of the hardware properly. A good comparison is running Windows 98 on a Intel Core i7 computer.
The built of the phone is good, the glass is made up of Gorilla Glass and the body is made up of anodised aluminum. Not forgetting it has a capacitive touch screen with AMOLED display. The battery is non-removable though.
After receiving Microsoft press release for launching Windows Phone 7 to Singapore, 5 minutes later, I got a SingTel press release entitled “SingTel brings Windows Phone 7 to Singapore”
The press release is pretty long, so I am not going to paste it here. I will summarize the press release into point form:
I wish Apple would follow Microsoft and put Singapore as it first market to launch stuff as well.
This is a copy + paste from the press release:
This is the 3rd time SingTel has launch an iPhone, the first being the iPhone 3G and second being the iPhone 3GS. They got it right this time!
The location was at Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre (Hall F) instead of the usual SingTel Comcenter. As this is a proper convention center, the space is huge and it is fully air-conditioned. This time around, it is strictly by appointment basis and no walked in is allowed. They are a few “layers” of security to make sure that happens. Even if your appointment is at 3 am but you came at 11 pm, they will make you queue up under the 3 am queue. As long as people followed their appointment timing, things will be smooth.
Here is the official word from SingTel on what to expect from the launch of iPhone 4 tonight and over the weekends:
SingTel has chosen a new and bigger venue to launch the new iPhone 4 this year at Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre. We are selling the phones at a centralised location so that all customers with appointments can buy their phones from one place conveniently. The larger venue also allows customers to be entertained by interactive demo zones where they can access and learn about SingTel’s latest mobile apps ranging from navigation to shopping apps. Customers can also enjoy food and beverages, plus song and dance performances.
