Teach a Technophobe – Challenge #2

Challenge #2 from my Nokia’s Teach a Technophobe has arrived in my mailbox on Friday. The challenge is for me to teach my mom how to snap a picture using the E75 3.2MP camera and email the picture to me. This time the challenge is more of a feature discovery for my mom as when I told her taught her this, she was like, “oh I didn’t know you can do that”. This challenge took a little longer than challenge #1 for both of us as I explained to her the various camera settings as well.

Li Xiang’s Blog Moved

I have moved Li Xiang blog from http://hiang1211.blogspot.com/, powered by Blogger, to our domain called http://onezero24.net/, powered by WordPress. I have imported all the post successfully by NOT using the default WordPress importer (WP-Admin -> Tools -> Import -> Blogger).

What I did was to make a backup of the blogger site (Blogger Admin -> Settings -> Basic -> Blog Tools -> Export Blog) and then it will generate a XML file for you to download it to your PC.

Cybercrime Uncovered By Symantec

Was invited to the Cybercrime Uncovered event by Symantec at Pan Pacific Hotel. I managed to reach there on time as it is near my work place, surprise to see Wilfrid there as well, been quite some time since I saw it and he has change his phone to Nokia N97!

Sorry man, I have forgotten to bring my camera and my iPhone 3GS is not up for the job due to the lack of optical zoom. I shall wait for Wilfrid for his photos.

Teach a Technophobe – Challenge #1

My first challenge of the Teach a Technophobe has arrived on Friday. I choose my mom (Jas Ngan) for the challenge as she requires email access on the go pretty often as she is a businesswoman. I am using the very excellent free Symbian application called Best Screen Snap to capture a screenshot on the E75 and I tied the shortcut key to the camera shutter button.

SingTel iPhone 3GS Launch Event

I was there last year at the Singtel iPhone 3G Launch queuing up for the iPhone 3G as a normal consumer. This year I was also there, but with a media pass. I was there pretty early at about 1.30pm because I have to go to Funan to run some errands. The media event started at about 3.30pm. We are brought around the Comcenter by Yuen Kuan Moon, the EVP of Consumer from Singtel. He explains to us the various part of the queue structure and how the customers will move about when queuing. Apart from that, Singtel announced a new service called Mio TV on Mobile. Customers can get to stream live tv stream from Channel 8, Channel News Asia, Bloomberg and a few others. It is not an iPhone App, but rather the streaming is done in Safari itself. It is pretty impressive as the quality is watchable and it doesn’t lag.

According to Kuan Moon, this year the response was much better than last year. He did not give an exact figure but he says in thousands. Last year the launch of iPhone 3G is basically register of interest and user still have to queue up. But this year, Singtel did a pre-order and require the customers to make a deposit of S$50 before queuing. There is also a separate queue for walk-in customers which closes at about 9pm due to the overwhelming response on the pre-order queue.
