DMMT Gathering
We had a DMMT gathering yesterday at Marina's Sakae Sushi, organised by Charlene. Among those who turned up were Charlene, Stacey, Zhi Wei, Laily, Suqin, Li Xiang and me. By chance we also spotted Zhi Fan and his girlfriend.
2006/2007 Semester 1 Modules Grades
My 2006/2007 Semester 1 results: B+ in Data Structures and Algorithms, B in Computer Organisation, D+ in Discrete Structures, B- in English for Academic Purposes and B in Introductory Mathematics. My CAP is 3.18. Disappointed CS1102 only got a B+.
Merry Christmas 2006
Wishing all visitors to my site a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I hope you got what you wanted; what I want isn't available yet, maybe by Christmas 2008. Tonight I'm having steamboat with family.
LiXiang’s New Computer
Li Xiang bought a new computer today from Fuwell in Sim Lim Square. The specs include an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, an MSI P965 Neo-F board, 1GB of Twinmos DDR2 and a PowerColor X1950 Pro 512MB.
Formatting Computers
I caught Flag of Our Fathers last week, a touching and rather gory film, decent overall. It plays more like a documentary than an action war movie. It was also the first time I learned about war bonds.
MS Paint God
Look at what this guy can do with Microsoft Paint; he's genuinely good. It's astonishing how much detail and artistry someone can wring out of such a basic, much-maligned tool that most of us only ever use for quick scribbles.
Deja Vu
I caught Deja Vu today and it's a good film. My eyes were glued to the huge screen throughout. The technology they use to trace the criminal is uber leet; whoever invents it could outdo Bill Gates.
End Of My Exams
Monday 7pm marked the end of my exams, it's time to relax, update my plugins and, if I have time, HTMLise my new layout. I've also installed Windows Vista; the GUI is great, but it runs slower than XP.
Sitex 2006
Before heading to Sitex 2006, I had the famous Mee Rebus and Soto Ayam at Bedok Central Hawker Centre, just $1.50 and $2.00 respectively, with generous portions. Cheap and good, the best Mee Rebus and Soto Ayam I've eaten.
Whining Bunch Of People
I think Singaporeans love to whine. The bus is too cold, complain; too hot, complain. Nobody gives up an MRT seat for the elderly, complain. Teenagers kissing on the MRT, complain. Students selling ice cream for pocket money, complain too.
Exams Coming
I've been busy redesigning this site and studying for exams, ending 4th December 2006. We also celebrated my dear's birthday at Cafe Swiss in Swissotel The Stamford; the food was good but not really to our liking.
Run Out Of Drive Alphabets In Windows?
Ever wondered what happens if you run out of drive letters in Windows, with C through Z all used and A and B reserved for floppies? The next drive you plug in is still detected, just without a letter.
Like Pig
I think the pig is the most pitiful animal ever, with every negative human trait mapped onto it, and we eat almost every part of it too. Just consider all the phrases: eat, sleep, lazy and stupid like a pig.
2nd Anniversary
We celebrated our second anniversary at Seoul Garden in Ngee Ann City, though its food variety keeps worsening; Yuki Yaki is now the better bet. I didn't buy my dear much, just a box of chocolates.
Short School Email Addresses
Woot, I've managed to grab super short email addresses from my school. Both lester at nus.edu.sg and lester at comp.nus.edu.sg reach me. Sweet, and far easier to rattle off than the usual long ones!
Singapore Future MRT/LRT Map
It was good news to me when I saw the map. Did anyone notice that NE2 station is missing from the North East Line? NE1 is HarbourFront and NE3 Outram, so where's NE2? Apparently it's Kampong Bahru.
Suck In Programming
I may be good at web programming, but Java, C, C++ and VB leave me helpless; thinking through the algorithms makes me wonder why I bother studying. Yet once I crack the algorithm, that doubt vanishes.
VivoCity Officially Opens
VivoCity is Singapore's largest retail, leisure and entertainment destination, right beside HarbourFront. It packs shopping, dining and entertainment into one sprawling space, with plenty of new retail concepts. A genuinely impressive addition to the city.
Programming Written Exams Are WTF
I've been swamped with nothing but school, with endless tutorials, lab exercises, quizzes and tests one after another, leaving almost no breathing space. While revising CS1102, Data Structures and Algorithms, I came across a particularly baffling question.

Northern Light
The Northern Lights are a lovely natural phenomenon, nature's own fireworks. Their shimmering curtains of green and violet light dancing across the polar sky are a breathtaking sight, and well worth reading more about if they fascinate you.
